Yes. If your laptop battery dies, you can still continue to use it when it's plugged in, it'll just be extremely immobile. In fact, with most laptops you can remove the battery from the laptop while it's on, and it will stay on and work just fine. Try it, really! I just did. As soon as you unplug it, it will shut down though, so you'll want to try to get used to not ever unplugging your laptop if you're expecting the battery to die.

Yes, laptops are usually designed to work using the powercord even if you take out the battery.

Have the battery charged and then tested and all cable connections checked. Once restarted, have the charging system tested. The accessories working doesn't mean anything.

Tip

How to troubleshoot a laptop charger.

  • Step 1 Wrap your charger's exposed wiring with electrical tape before proceeding. This will help to prevent any kind of electrical hazard or further damage.
  • Step 2 Push the wire next to the charger base (the connecting tip near the laptop end) side to side to see if you can get a current to connect. This is a temporary solution, but it can help you salvage your files so that you can work with them on a different computer.
  • Step 3 Make sure that it isn't a battery problem. Many laptop owners believe their charger is the problem when their battery is charging. Laptop batteries generally begin to lose the ability to hold a charge after two to three years of heavy usage. Try removing your laptop battery. If the computer still runs, the charger is not the problem.
  • Step 4 Check to see if the issue lies in your computer. You can do this by testing out an alternate charger on the laptop--if the charger still does not work, it's an internal laptop issue. For this kind of power system problem, you will probably have to send your computer to its manufacturer rather than a local repair shop.
  • Step 5 Replace your charger. A replacement charger is usually easy to find and quite affordable. Instead of going to a local electronics retailer where universal chargers can cost $100 or more, look online for your specific model's charger. Some chargers can be purchased for as little as $5

I have a compaq presario cq series notebook, that i got back in april, and it has quit charging, the ac adapter still seems to work, but it quit charging, the light that shows its plugged in sometimes...

    1. Take the battery out. Start the computer with just electric. Is it dependable? If so, replace battery.

    2. After leaving it plugged in 4 hrs (good outlet). Un plug it and try to use it. Failure indicates battery failed to charge. If test #1 passed replace battery.

I have an Aspire 7736Z-4809 and it seems that the battery isn't working. If I unplug the power strip the computer shuts off. Is this the battery or the settings or the plug? Any thoughts?

Unplug the laptop then remove the battery. Reseat the battery, plug the laptop back in. Then restart your laptop. Give it 5-10min to allow for a small charge and then remove your charger again. If the laptop shuts off immediately it is quite likely that your battery has failed. This is quite common for batteries. If you're under warranty please contact the manufacturer. Else you will likely find a cheaper battery solution on ebay. -Ravi Shanghavi

    • 1) TAKE OUT YOUR LAPTOP BATTERY
    • 2) REMOVE YOUR AC ADAPTOR CORD, that's the wall power, remove it.
    • 3) NOW HOLD DOWN THE POWER BUTTON FOR 30 SECONDS.
hat will drain any static electricity that has built up on your laptop system board and many times fixes the problem of a black screen. After the 30 seconds re-connect your laptop to the wall power and hit the power button normally and see if the laptop comes back up.
    Replace your battery.
    Restart!.

Hi, You need to check the ignition plug behind to ensure it is still working fine. You will need a spanner for this and unscrew it anticlockwise.

During power up, the pc quits working.Blue power light stays on but no power to hard drive or screen. Occasionally will get through power up and then quits working after 3-4 minutes. It's not the battery....

I'd remain focused on the batteries. You can't have a blue power light on, unless there is power to the drive, I say this because you do power up occasionally, albeit, for a short time. This should also rule out Operating Sytem failure. Not hard drive failure, however.
Its also not important that your power occures via battery or power cable. Search out all the batteries for your laptop, there might be several watch batteries, hidden away, that need to be replaced. They are there to keep the CMOS operational. If these batteries are in failure, your laptop will not function correctly. Battery powered or not. I believe it doubtfull about the connector, but if your sure the cable hasn't been kinked, thus the wire broken, preventing electrical current from arrive at the laptop - I say no faulty connector.
If you find the batteries, and think they are faulty. Replace them and maintain them (batteries) properly. The next step is to look at replacing power cable with a new cable purchased at your favorite computer outlet source.
If you've done both of these step, it got to be a faulty hard drive, consult local computer guy, or the manufacture of your laptop for easy replacement of the hard drive ( be prepared to pay for this service). Or if you feel you don't want to mess around with locating the batteries.

THE LAPTOP BOOTS UP BOUT ONLY FOR A MINUTE OR TWO THEN POWERS OFF. THIS HAPPENS WHEN IT IS ON BATTERY AND ELECTRIC POWER AS WELL. THE BATTERY LIGHT IS ON AND RED WHAT DOES THIS MEAN

Hi there, it sounds like a cooling system issue. When you turn it on, does the fan work? Does it spin fast or quite? If the fan doesn't work the system goes in protection and it shuts down.

    Brookstone acuvibe soft touch massager

The current unit sold by Brookstone does not have a power cord. The unit is sealed and the battery is not replaceable. Many units eventually quit working when recharging cycle quits. Only solution is to replace the unit or contact Brookstone for their service center. Probably cheaper to replace the unit.
