Question about Makita Drills
Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly,
Look at this link
http://home.comcast.net/~jaswensen/machines/drill/drill.html (I verified that the link works.)
paying attention to the slider (Item 37) in the picture just a bit more than 50% down the page. Yuo will have to slide the slider in place and then use an Allen Wrench to remove the old chuck.
Sometimes you have to use a hammer and a chisel on the OLD chuck to turn it enough to loosen.
To me the chisel is the tool of last resort but you can use it to rotate the old head CCW. The hard part is preventing the motor from rotating while you use the chisel.
Thanks for choosing FixYa,

Hi, if your chuck is jammed and cant put an allen key in it to tighten it, and then to hit it sharp with a hammer anti clock wise, the only way I found to do it sucessfully is to carfeully cut it away using an angel grinder! but take great care not to grind the thread on the drill! i have done this twice, both with success!
