Question about First Alert Brk / First Alert Smoke Detector Alarm Battery Powered

1 Answer

Two first alert smoke detectors go off for no reason. All are on 110 with good batteries. Have had these for approx. 12 years with no problems until now when 2 of the 7 have gone off many times in the last week. Maybe they are feeling there age at the same time and becoming overly sensitive. Thanks

There may be dust built up in the sensing chamber. This can cause alarms to go off for no reason. Try vacuuming the alarm off particularly around the sensor if the cover is removable. These alarms should be replaced however, as they are more than 10 years old.

Smoke detector removed from ceiling. Only wires visible, but I still hear chirping.

Look at the detector you removed, and all others that may still be wired in.
They all have battery backup. Although the detectors are hardwired, the chirping is coming from one of the detectors to let you know to change the battery.

I have replaced the batteries to the smoke detectors and they keep beeping. What is the problem?

It is possible that the battery is not contacting the metal clips inside. See if the can be adjusted out. More likely the detector is not recognizing the voltage of the new battery. You can try removing the detector from the ac power install the battery and reconnecting it to the ac. It should correct the issue.

I want to disable the remote sensor function on the first alert sa302. My tv remote keeps setting off my smoke detector

First you need to remove the battery, hold test button down while re-installing battery, when detector beeps,it disarms remote feature. Normal detector then. this should dissable the remote feature. this is a very common complaint. If for some reason it wont turn the remote off get a piece of tape to cover the sensor.
If your happy with this solution a vote for the thumb up would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for using Fix Ya

I have just replaced 2 out of 3 hardwired smoke alarms with First Alert AC plus battery backup detectors. The old one is about 30 years old along with the two new ones. What happens is when I plug them all...

If they are all thirty years old, Id replace them all. You can try first by giving the old one a good cleaning. Get a can of air and thoroughly spray in and around the smoke. You can also remove the cover and use q tip in alcohol to clean it well. If that does not correct the problem, replace the last one.

Every hour my detector beeps and the green lights flashing is it carbon nonoxide or smoke or battery??

If it only beeps once and then pauses, the batteries are suspect. The batteries should be replaced twice each year. I like to change them when we change the clocks back and forth.
I hope that this helps.

Hint you can test them with a match (blow it out) and let the smoke rise into the detector. I recommend that this be done at lease once a year.

Hope this helps
