I have rechargeable batteries and I've changed them out to brand new ones several times. Why does the flash icon continuously blink like it is trying to set the flash, but can't?

Canon A540 flash does not work. I can switch the lever to review the pictures and it will reset it so that I can get one flash. Then it locks up and the recharge light just flashes and drains the batteries.

The flash icon blinks when trying to take a picture. Only when I turn off the flash does it take the pic. It has brand new batteries. Does the cr1220 battery have anything to do with the flash? I have taken it out and inserted it again and it allows me to reset the date and time. What do I do? Is the flash busted?

I have both problems: camera will not shoot when flash is on, and I keep getting battery low wignals when I have recently changed to new batteries.

    same exact problem....

  • Anonymous Dec 07, 2008

I just changed the batteries. If the flash is on, when I try to take a picture, the flash just blinks. I can only take a picture with the flash off. I don't know how to change my flash settings from "continuous" or not, but I don't think that will help me, as even with brand new batteries it will not work.

I have same problem. I play with the menu and put flash power to minimum. It works ! and still work when I put back to auto. But 2 weeks later it happen again and my trick don't work anymore. :-(

  • squid_mg Jan 06, 2009

I also have this problem and have done everything with the menu, flash settings, new batteries. This camera only started doing this after it was a year old and did not do this when it was new. I have come to the conclusion that the Canon cameras are simply crappy, disposable cameras and I will not purchase another one. I will research my next purchase much better and not include Canon in my consideration set. Too bad for Canon - probably much better for me.

Same problem!! Flash icon blinks and I cannot take a picture. I called Canon's tech support and was told I could send it in to be repaired for $80.00 plus shipping and handling OR trade it in for my choice of one of three models costing me between $80 to $125 plus S&H. I think I will save my $80.00 and buy a new camera, different brand!

When attempting to take picture with flash, flash icon flashes on screen and nothing happens.  repeated battery changes does not help.

    I have the same problem.
It's only happened recently too which I found really weird, maybe I dropped it by accident and it just messed something up??

I don't know where it sprung from but my auto flash light blinks with the flash with a dash through it....It's really frustrating! I think I've had this camera for over 2 years though...time for a new one I guess

Have you checked your camera settings via the menu? You could check and see if the flash is set for continuous use or only when needed. And also your camera power supply? Could be the batteries are too weak to run both.

New batteries, not on continuous mode and flash isn't working. Get orange light, but when I press shutter button, the flash button on the screen flashes but doesn't take a picture.

It could be circuit, capacitor or the flash tube itself? Digital cameras are so cheap now that buy a new one is a good choice.

Ge E850 will not take picture if flash is on. The flash icon will just blink. Will take picture if turn off flash.

If the flash cannot get a full charge, it will blink and prevent a picture from being taken. check your batteries.

My camera's flash is not working and the icon of flash keeps blinking every time i try to click a photo. Also the camera works fine when I switch off the flash.

If its blinking then it meas that it is not adequately charged. The flash indicator will turn to steady orange if its properly charged.

Can't take picture with flash...icon just blinks!

A blinking flash icon usually means the flash is trying to charge but the battery level is too low to power it up.

Camera fails to flash every time we take a picture

1.Turn off the camera.
2.Install a set of new or fully charged batteries into the camera. then turn it ON
3.Press the Flash Status button to scroll through the flash options until Fill Flash (the lightning bolt icon alone, with no other letter or symbol) is displayed. This forces the camera to use the flash. a86196b.jpg
4.Take a picture. [If flash still doesn't work contact Kodak support line 1 800 235 6325 (23KODAK)]

My camera wont click (take pictures)

try replacing the batteries with new ones, and if it persists you should contact casio customer support. hopefully you're still within the warranty period, because they will over charge even on minor repairs(they all do). there is a problem with the shutter mechanism, either electronic in nature, or mechanical. the click you're hoping to hear is the shutter release, and its not releasing. give them a call, get a repair estimate, and if its too high try finding a repair person with good hands that wants to have a go at it. nothing but good luck ;]
