Question about Intuit TurboTax Deluxe: Windows

2 Answers

I completed my 2010 taxes last week, but did not submit to the IRS. Yesterday could not even open Turbotax - or run Turbotax. Have no idea where my completed tax work is! I'm resigned to spending 3h again to do it over again - but I can't even get the application to start. Hope you can help me.

Resolve your problem in 2 Easy Steps:

  1. First, run a SEARCH on your Windows computer, SEARCH for
    files with the".tax2010" file extension.

Like the commonly known EXE, MP3, DOCX file extensions, a TAX2010 file extension is associated with a specific application and in this case--TURBOTAX 2010 Basic/Deluxe/Home&Business/Premier

EXAMPLE: input the bolded text in the search field criteria, it may look like:

    Search Files and Folders

    Name:
    TYPE: *.tax2010
    KIND: TurboTax 2010 Document
*NOTE: adding an asterisk * before the extension specifies a wildcard value to the search, thus indicating that the search should find ALL files with the .tax2010 extension.
  2. Next, try to open up the located .TAX2010 file(s) from the search results to see if your TT will open up OK, if not REINSTALL the app from its original source CD/download location OR the CONTROL PANEL.

You can shutdown your computer and turn it back on,and log back in again. Click on start and all program, and turbo tax to see if it works. Your tax work file should still in in turbo tax folder in your C drive. Try shutdown and turn it back on first to see and let me know, and we can go from there.
Thanks

Thanks. I had already tried that before posting. Since then I was successful yesterday at uninstalling and reinstalling TT and accessed the start page like a week ago. Today AVG is interfering and won't let TT run. Somewhere I read that there's a fix or upgrade for that. I paid for AVG 2010.

    Hello
AVG may see you TT has virus and stop it from launching. Please click below link and follow a couple of steps to fix the issue.

Other alternative way to get your TT works is remove your AVG temporary, reboot your PC, and launch your TT.. Once you are done with TT, you can reinstall AVG again. Do this only if you have AVG installation disc with you and know how to reinstall and uninstall. Hope this helps. Let me know. and don't forget to rate me.
    Thanks

The IRS does not email you or phone you; they send letters or registered letters. Call your local IRS office if you have any questions.

For tax purposes in 2016 I need to show how much I spent on tickets entered into the California Lottery Second chance game Where do I get that info

Unless you did it by an online subscription, only by keeping all the tickets and filing them. Never heard of lottery tickets being tax deductible and highly doubt they are unless you have your own business and gave them as incentive gifts, and then you buy them on a company credit card and submit the statements.

Getting error messages when trying to load the cd on my computer running windows xp. error message is 1334 and avg firewall comes out with a trojan virus. Is my cd bad, can it be replaced? I have been...

Hello sharon! My name is Kandi and I am an Expert with Fixya and also an Employee of Intuit. I troubleshoot TurboTax and supervise agents who handle customer service calls. I am very familiar with the error that you are talking about and it has nothing to do with your TurboTax disk. In order to install your disk, you need to remove your AVG virus software and reinstall it later when your finished filing your taxes. There is a problem with the older versions of AVG thinking that TurboTax is a virus and it will block the installation of the program. Go to your control panel, and remove AVG completely. Reboot your pc. Run disk cleanup (Start, programs, system tools & click on disk cleanup) and check all available boxes when asked. Then run disk defrag (located in the same place as disk cleanup as noted above). Then put your TurboTax disk back in your pc and try to install again. If you cannot get the disk to install, you can reach us for customer support by going to www.turbotax.intuit.com. Click on the support link and then move all the way down almost to the bottom of the page and look for the box on the right side that says "Contact us". Choose the option that best describes your problem and it will forward you to your choice of contact method (we have chat email and phone service all available at no charge to you). We are open from 5am until 9pm pst.

I cannot access my files from Turbotax that I completed the whole return and there is an application error ttax.exe. It says in the description:';The application failed to initialize properly...

well..this sounds like a clear example of a disk that needs a disk clean and defrag, and maybe a virus check..if you know how to do those, start now, if not, send an email to me, in my profile, and we can do a remote from Hawaii
