Question about HP Compaq nx9500 Notebook

1 Answer

I have nx9500. No power on response UNLESS 1.) battery is removed and 2.) on/off switch held down for 30+seconds and 3.) AC brick then plugged in. When all this is done and on/off switch pressed, the LEDs for power and volume with flick ONCE and the AC LED on front edge of laptop will light and stay on. BUT the second I touch the on/off switch, the AC LED dies instantly, with no ohter sound or ligh.

It would appear from what you say, there is a short on the motherboard. This can cause the adapter to shut down, which it is suppose to do. Unless there is an object in the laptop, the motherboard is damaged and must be repair/replaced.
Please rate this solution.

Check if the AC Adapter brick is getting warm when connected, if not then you need to replace the Adapter.

If AC Adapter brick is getting warm and still its not charging the Battery, please perform the following steps.

1. Disconnect the AC Adapter.
2. Remove the Battery.
3. Hold the Power button down for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
4. Reconnect the AC adapter and do NOT connect the battery now.
5. Turn on the Notebook power.

Note: With an extensive use of the notebook, some times notebook would store some static charges which indeed will stop the notebook from powering up or charging the battery.
The procedure to remove this static charges from the notebook is known as power drain.
Performing a power drain procedure will not effect any personal data or delete any pictures from the hard drive on your notebook.

If issue persists, contact Notebook manufacturer for further support.

Laptop shuting down and beeping

Forget about calling HP. Unless you recently purchased it, the warranty is already out. There's a known motherboard problem that HP will warranty ONLY if it's a few months old. Check their website or call if you have half a day to waste. Sorry for being negative, but in reality, there's not much hope.

Here's a "fun option" that has worked for some:
1. Power down the laptop.
2. Unplug the AC cord.
3. Remove the battery.
4. Plug the AC cord in again.
5. Push and hold the power on button for 30-40 seconds.
6. IF it boots up, install the battery and you're good to go.

They say this procedure removes static electricity. Actually, it's a sign of the motherboard going out. Days are numbered. Back up all data files when/if you can.

HP STUCK IN HIBERNATION MODE. HOW DO YOU FIX?

*Take out the battery,
*Remove main supply,
*Hold power button down for 30 secs,
*Put only power supply in, do not put battery in
*Turn laptop on
*Put the battery in.

or this:

1. Remove power supply and battery.
2. Hold power button down for 30 seconds.
3. WHILE STILL HOLDING DOWN POWER BUTTON, INSERT POWER SUPPLY, THEN INSERT THE BATTERY. *THE POWER BUTTON SHOULD BE HELD, THROUGHOUT THIS ENTIRE STEP.
4. At this point, the blue light and the charging light should both come on, and the computer should start properly.
And check ur operating system for errors by downloading reginout

This is one of three things. Unfortunately, it's difficult to determine which, unless you start replacing parts.

1. Bad switch. The switch doesn't usually go bad by itself, has the PS2 been dropped? Bumped? Anyone push the switch too hard? It's held in by solder on all 4 corners. If the solder becomes dislodged, the switch can fail.

2. Bad cable. This is rare unless someone opened the PS2 and removed/installed the cable a few times and frayed the internal wires.

3. Bad motherboard. Sometimes a power problem can develop, or the motherboard can short out. It's pretty rare, but I have seen it happen.

4. Bad AC adapter. Recent power surge? It's possible that the AC adapter is delivering enough voltage to power the standby light, but not enough to power the actual system on. You can easily check this by plugged your PS2 up on someone else's AC adapter or taking your AC adapter to someone else's PS2.

My mom can not turn on here laptop

Hi:
You might want to resubmit your problem, with more details, but some general things to check are:

1) Is the laptop battery charged, or is the laptop plugged in ?

2) Remove the battery, unplug the AC Adapter, then hold the power switch down for 10 seconds, then put the battery back in , connect the AC Adapter and see if it turns on

3) Remove the battery, unplug AC adapter, hold power button down for 10 seconds, and then plug in the AC adapter, see if it turns on.

If all of the above fails to help, You most likely need to take the laptop into a shop for further troubleshooting.

Cannot shut off & no display

The eMachines M5105 is notorious for failing to boot if left unplugged and powered off long enough for the battery to become mostly discharged. Plugging it in to AC power will cause the battery to start charging; and the hard disk drive to spin while the CPU cooling fan cycles on and off vigorously. THE UNIT WILL NOT BOOT UNTIL THE BATTERY IS NEAR FULLY CHARGED; then THE AC DISCONNECTED; and then THE (charged) BATTERY REMOVED AND RE-INSTALLED! Most units will boot after following the foregoing procedure.

Check the AC adapter (the brick) if its showing light. If it does, try flexing the cable that is connected to your computer. Also, you may isolate the issue by removing the battery. If you can see light on your computer when you turn it on, it means its getting power.

Can't Turn Computer On

I understand that your Notebook is not turning on.

That's unfortunate.

However, try to perform the following steps.

= Power Drain =

1. Disconnect the AC Adapter.
2. Remove the Battery.
3. Hold the Power button down for 30 seconds to 1 minute.
4. Reconnect the AC adapter and Battery.
5. Turn on the Notebook power.

If the issue persists, I am afraid that you need to repair your Notebook.

Thanks
