Question about D-Link DES 1005D (DES-1005D) 5x10/100 Mbps Networking Switch

1 Answer

I have a D-link DES-1005d switch, a broadband connection, and two computers. Both computers can connect and use the internet at the same time, the problem is that we can't surf the internet properly, it's just like the connection is unstable. Most of the time, the web-page results in a timeout. The issue is that we can download using p2p programs and the speed is still good. The problem is that we cant surf the net properly if we are connected to the switch. I tried directly connecting the broadband connection to one computer only and i can just surf and download just fine. So I'm guessing that the problem is within the switch and not on our internet connection. And also i already tried connecting the cables on different ports on the switch but its still the same. So what will i do to fix this.

How to connect des-1005d

The new model. Just plug it in. No configurations. Any port for any use. The selling point is unmanaged. Look for the problem somewhere else (including the cables) till you are sure it's the switch. Then it needs to be replace.

The older model uses standard cabling practices, but still very versatile.

You should use a router instead of a switch...however if you still want to use the switch, request your service provider to provide two ip addresses, instead of regularly just one...but you mostly like need to pay monthly the extra ip address...alternatively ask your service provider to upgrade your cable modem to cable modem with router capability, ...

Check the network settings of your pc in network and sharing, adapter settings , right click local area connection and press properties, click IPv4 and look at its properties. Ensure ip and DNS are bother set to auto.
press start, type cmd right click the grey chalk board press run as administrator. Type ipconfig /release then type ipconfig /renew
also try a different port/cable if it is a gigabit switch an orange light means it is running below the speed. I.e. 10/100 if it is working correctly the lights should be green.

You need two cables one from the Modem into the internet port on the back of the router and another from Computer Port 1 into your computer then you should be able to connect via wireless. If not get onto the router CP and check the settings.

2 pc connected but wont allow both on internet at once

Set up both pc's with dhcp. To do this, right click (My Network Places) in the start menu and choose properties. Right click your network connection and again choose properties. Click Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and then select properties. Choose (Obtain an IP Address Automatically). Then (OK) and again (OK). Do this on both pc's.
