It will start and almost immediately stop. It's A Briggs & Straton Quatum XNP 6.5.

First confirm that Oil, gas, spak plug and air filter are good. Also check the bowl bolt. The jets feed through the center of this bolt, there is a tiny hole in the center, that feed from two more holes near the base of the bolt head.If the hole is clogged or plugged it will not let the engine to start and run.You can use a small jet drill to clear the hole. The brass jet on the bottom center of the carburator float bowl gets clogged with sediment.When you take it off a bread tie wire & come carburetor cleaner are all you need to clean the jet. Take care when putting on the bowl as the sealing gasket (large o-ring) must seal perfectly otherwise the primer bulb will squirt fuel out of the bowl instead of priming the carb .A 5/16", 3/8" & a 1/2" socket (& ratchet) carburetor cleaner & bread tie or garbage bag tie wire are all you need to complete the repair. It helps if you drain the gas tank before you begin. Or you can just pinch off the line with a vice grip. ---------- Drain the float bowl - it's possible that a drop of water has found it's way in, blocking the jet. While the bowl is off, check that there is a decent flow of fuel.
These engines are prone to breaking the inlet pipe that runs across the top of the cylinder from the carb to the inlet port. This will cause similar symptoms of it is cracked.

MTD Briggs and Straton 22" Mower Wont Start Brand


You probably have dirt in the carburetor. Or, you may have water in the fuel. As long as you have spark, then there is nothing else that it could be. Unless you have taken it apart already; have you done this?

We have a 6.25 /Briggs & Straton we have cleaned


You should have two fuel lines going from the carb to the tank, one has a filter,

make sure both lines are good without any breaks or cracks. if the filter is dirty

you may need to replace it. you can fish it out of the gas tank by making a hook

on a wired coat hanger, try to remove the filter and put the line back in the tank

make sure they are both submerged, if it runs just replace the filter, good luck!

Surging is usually caused by a lean condition You can try to turn the mixture screw ccw about 1/4 to 1/2 turn. If this does not solve the problem your carb will have to be removed, cleaned thoroughly, and reinstalled.

Gas in oil 12.5 hp briggs and straton will not start


the float in the carb is stuck open, its flooding with gas. the gasoline is going past the rings and/or valves into the crankcase. you need to remove the float bowl and unstick and reset the float to specs, maybe a new seat and needle and change the oil before restarting.

Home Depot has the plug you need for briggs 6.5hp engines. Don't worry about it being a Murray. Buy a Briggs 6.5hp plug.

Wont stay running without pushing primer


Hi... I have a Poulan PRO Quantum xnp 6.75. Garage kept, unused approximately 2 yrs. Added fuel, primed & mower started but then shut down immediately. Then fuel began leaking from the primer button. I'm a single mom & CANNOT afford to have anyone fix this. However I am attempting to repair myself. PLEASE.... If you have any suggestions &/or solutions I would LOVE to know.
