SOURCE: wiring ceiling fans to wall switch

Hi Bigelow,

You need two switches.  It sounds like the Electrician set up the junction box for two circuits(Lights and Fans).  i say this because your supply has 4 wires, Red , Black, White and Bare. We may be able to oversome this with one Lutron Switch. Allow me to investigate, and I will be back.

SOURCE: Wiring on a RCA RJ-45 wall jack

the RJ45 wallplate is not meant for ethernet. It's an 8P8C connector for a phone. Will it work as a network jack? Maybe. I wouldn't use it, but if you really want to try, wire it thusly:

1 Blue --- Orange/White
2 Orange --- Orange
3 Black --- Green/White
4 Red --- Blue
5 Green --- Blue/White
6 Yellow --- Green
7 Brown --- Brown/White
8 White --- Brown

I'd still recommend a CAT5 wallplate with a CAT5 jack.

SOURCE: I bought a Utilitech 7 day digital in wall timer,

HI .. if the switch has only a black and white wire attached, and there are no other wires in the wall box, then you cannot use this timer switch. You need to return it and get a timer that does not use a neutral connection. The wires you have are a switch leg from the light and there is a white wire but it is not a neutral.
If there are other wires in that wall box , tell me and we can chat more about how to remedy this .

Phone Jack Wiring Problem

Your apartment is wired for two lines but you are using only one of the two. Your phone jack has red and green terminals for one line and yellow and black terminals for the other (old color codes). The four wires coming in to your apartment are actually two lines: orange/white and white/orange plus blue/white and white/blue (new color codes). One of those lines is active. Connect the orange/white wire to the red terminal and the white/orange wire to the green terminal. Plug in your phone and listen for a dial tone. If no tone, disconnect the first line and connect the second pair of wires. Listen again. DO NOT CONNECT ANY WIRES TOGETHER. Just follow the steps above. If you still don't get results, the phone company may not have activated your connection

Need manual for wiring phones

The 612 system required 3 pairs per phone. Every 3 pairs on the 25 pair cable would be one station. A modern 6 conductor jack would be wired according to the label. If you have jacks with Green,Red,Black,Yellow,White, and Blue wires, then it's wired as follows.
W/Bl - Green
Bl/W - Red
W/Or - Black
Or/W - Yellow
W/Gr - White
Gr/W - Blue

I have a cat5e wall plate(tph552) a cat5e wire4 colors don't match and 4 colors do ( brown,orange,blue,green,) are ok then wire has 4 that are white with (brown,orange,green,blue,)stripe. and wall plate...

The wires/colors in a category 5e cable run in pairs. They should be tightly twisted together, mostly white with a blue tracer. mostly blue with a white tracer- mostly white with an orange tracer- mostly orange with a white tracer, mostly white with a green tracer- mostly green with a whte tracer, and mostly white with a brown tracer- mostly brown with a white tracer. The jack you have sounds like a standard telephone or cat. 3 jack. If the jack is being used for a standard telephone line, you'll need to connect one of the wire pairs(usually the white/blue pair) to the green and red terminals on the jack.Make sure that the same pair is also terminated at the main telephone junction.

LIGHT ON THE SPEAKER BUTTEN STAYS ON

If your speaker button doubles as an in-use-indicator , You most likely have a reverse polarity, This is not usually a problem because the phone will work either way, This only happens with some systems, Check your wall jack for Red and Green wires. The Jack Red Wire should be (Depending on your house wiring) attached to a Red, Blue, or Bluewhite wire and the Green should be attached to a Green, White/Blue stripe, or White/blue striped. Yellow and Black was intended for line 2 but may have been used instead. I hope this helps you

I'm trying to install a rotary phone, but it doesn't have a jack like modern phones do. It has three wires with little crescent shaped metal things on the ends. Please help!

if they are red-green-yellow then just isolate your yellow wire and spade and open up phone junction box and connect the red/green wires to the red/green wires on phone jack terminals you can hook either way this type of phone isn't polarity sensitive, then make sure all other phones on this line work properly after install

No service

What color wires were there ???
What kind of jack, a new one that had...
white blue/blue
white orange/orange
white green/ green
white brown/brown
?????

If so, the white/white blue would go to the same wires.
If you had red/green and black/yellow, the red/green should go to the white blue/blue.

Phone line/phone jack problem

The wiring on the jacks is set up for a 2 line phone.

If you take the jacks apart, you will see either:
A) red, green, and black, yellow
B)white blue/blue white and white orange/orange white

You need to swap the pairs.
If there are red/green/black/yellow wires. remove the yellow/black and move them to where the red/greens are. Then put the red/green wires, where the yellow/black used to be.

OR, you need to swap the orange and the blue wires.
