Question about Taylor Ice Cream Makers

Open Question

Taylor 152 counter top ice cream machine belt slipping and making noise. New belt fitted but still making noise at end of freezing cycle even when ice cream is softened. Belt seems a little slack. Is there a way to adjust it tighter.

SOURCE: trying to find out what a taylor 168-12 ice cream

Depending on serial number, that machine is about a 2000-2001. Very nice commercial ice cream maker. I've seen used ones range in price from $1000 to $3000. $2500 seems to be a going rate for a used one.

I have a Taylor C707-23 that is freezing the product in the barrel and not dispensing. Then the drive motor trips. Had the sensor probe changed same thing.

If this is an ongoing problem that you have had for a while, it sounds as though your viscosity may be set too high. You can adjust the viscosity by removing the 4 screws that hold the face plate on. You will see 3 potentiometers. You want the left most potentiometer. It Should be labeled "Viscosity". You need a tiny screwdriver to turn it. Turn it counter clockwise about 1/16th of a turn. If your Ice Cream is already frozen, You will have to let it cycle a few times before the ice cream reaches consistency. If its liquid, then you will know as soon as the machine finishes the initial freeze down cycle.

If this is a new problem, then it is highly likely that your beater motor is going bad. To check this you would want to test the amperage of the motor when you initially draw product from the machine. A single phase 1.5HP motor in the taylor ice cream machines should not draw more than 7 amp on an initial draw right after freeze down. Its normal to draw around 6 amps then drop for a few second. In order to trigger the reset, the beater motor has to draw more than 6.3 amps for an extended period of time. Your reset may be set higher than 6.3 but that is average.

Brush Cleaning did not clear the (L / R) HPR> 45F (7C) AFTER 1 HR fault on my Taylor Model C723 soft serve ice cream freezer.

Certain conditions must be met. The machine needs to be empty. The freezer door must be off the machine. The power switch must be off. Once the machine is off, a 5 minute countdown will show. It will also show 4 temperature readings. All 4 of them must be above 60 degrees F. before the countdown will start. Once the counter reaches zero, the Brush Clean Cycle will be reset along with any temperature vs. time error codes. If at any time, one of the temp readings drop below 60 degrees F. before the end of the 5 minute countdown, the countdown will reset to 5 minutes and the machine will not reset. Generally, the freezing cylinders take longer to come to temperature. Even when you run warm water through it first, there is sometimes enough residual cold to bring the temperature back below 60. A successful Brush clean Cycle will display "Power Switch Off---Unit Cleaned" and the 2 digit green display under the main display will reset to 00. if this happens and you turn the machine back on and you are hit with the same message then you may have an issue with one of your boards.

My taylor 152 only makes about 5 ice creams then won't produce any more for about 6 minutes ... why ??

The Taylor 152 is at the low end of output when it comes to commercial soft serve equipment. It is rated for 102 3.5oz. servings per hour, but only 4 3.5oz rapid servings before it needs time to recover.
Possible remedies:
When you need to serve several cones in a row, you can pull the feed tube in the top. That will help the product fill the cylinder a little faster.
You could always consider a used Taylor machine that has the ability to keep up with your demand. Soft Serve Parts Taylor Machines

Recently bought a used Taylor Shake/Slush Freezer Model 430 to be used for shakes. It was used for aheks in the past and no problems, however, we put it together and the ice cream is too hard. Even...

The Taylor 430 thermistor model has two adjustments a fine adjustment, which is made by turning the knob, and a coarse adjustment that is made by turning the screw in the center of the knob. I suspect you are trying the fine adjustment, which will change the product + or - 2 degrees F. The coarse adjustment will let you set the product temperature between 10 and 30 degrees F.

As far as the clunking, those machines clunk a little. It would do it more if the product was too hard.

You are correct the machine will leak drops into the drip tray, but if it is more than drops, you want to address it. Should be as simple as a new tune up kit.

Gearboxes definitely go bad. The first sign is usually noise, I would describe it as a rumbling. The best way to determine if it's the gear box is:
1. empty and disconnect machine from power.
2. remove the freezer door and beater assembly
2. remove the rear panel - 4 screws
3. Remove the belts on the noisy side
4. Spin the big pulley and listen for the noise, you may want to remove the belts on the quiet side to compare the two.
I have a video that was shot to help change the hex coupler, but you would follow all of the same steps to replace the gear box.

Try slowing down the rate at which you are drawing the product from the machine, and giving it a minute or two between draws. If you take to much out to fast it starves the barrel and will cause it to freeze up,and that will make the belts squeal.
