Question about HP Officejet 6500 Wireless All-in-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

I set up HP6500 to connect with the AT&T U-verse on the printer's front panel. No problem. Then I pinged the printer from my laptop running Windowns XP. No problem. I still cannot print. Do I have to connect the printer to the router with an Ethernet cable or is there some other way, short of connecting the printer directly to my notebook using the USB port which means that my hubby can't print unless he comes over to the printer and hook up to it.

Not at all,

If the laptop is pinging the printer that means that it is communicating with the printer there must be some other problem.

Go to the control panel >> printers and check that the printer is default printer or not and if it is then check the ip address in the properties of the printer is it same as your printer has. I am sure this is gonna solve your problem

If not please let me know. I will love to solve this problem. we can take remote of your laptop if needed though I think you are good at computers and we can solve it by chatting

Hello, I have a brother MFC-490CW mult-function printer (wireless) and I am having trouble setting up the wireless feature so my laptop can print to it via through my home network (Linksys wireless...

You have to make sure the following are used on your wireless settings on your router -

Wireless Network Security SSID (32 chr), WEP 64/128bit, WPA-PSK (TKIP/AES), WPA2-PSK (AES)

This means your SSID is less than 32 chars and your running either WEP, WPA. Or WPA2

Then on your printer make sure you have the wireless enabled and Just a good rule of thumb - When putting in a wireless printer just fudge with the wirless/TCP/IP settings on the printer until you can ping the printer from the PC. Do NOT bother running the software installs until you know you have a good ping from the printer as it will just bomb out.

So, both computers are on the lan segment of 2wire? How many lan ports on 2 wire? Can you do ipconfig from the command line on both computers to see what the addresses are? In most cases, the first 3 octets xxx.yyy.zzz.### should be the same. If not, then 2wire is configured for vlan and the computers are actually on different lan segments & cannot communicate with each other.
Another thing you can do to troubleshoot is to ping each other's address.
You have to first establish there is communication between the 2 systems before troubleshooting further. Otherwise, you could be wasting a lot of time.

Can not connect PC - copier

make sure they are both on the same sub & default gateway
or switch on dhcp at the machine if it is on your laptop
if you go to command prompt on your laptop and type
then hit enter
this will give you the settings for the laptop
then give the copier settings in the same range but different ip address
power off the machine to make the changes take effect
if you cannot ping your laptop from the copier and vice versa your settings are incorrect or your cable is faulty
also check that your machine is setup as a network device and has all the hardware/softwareit requires

Not ping

Is this computer in the same workgroup as the other computers?
Does this computer have the same IP address range as the other computers?
Is the network card on this computer working and enabled (check device manager)?
Use ipconfig command from the DOS panel to check the IP settings on this computer. Also run ipconfig on the other working computers and compare the IP settings. Each computer's IP address should all be the same except for the last group of numbers, eg.
Get back to me if you still have problems.

Lost connectivity to network printer when switched to ATT u-Verse

Is the printer connected via wireless? When I recently connected up a new wireless printer to my UVerse network, the printer manual said that establishing the first connection works better via an Ethernet cable directly to the Uverse router. After the printer is set up once, then I could remove the ethernet cable and connect to the printer via wireless from all my computers.
For all wireless PCs that were previously connected via wireless to dsl, you need to create a new network connection for each one, then enter the key that is listed on the side of your Uverse router when prompted. Sometimes it takes a few minutes to establish the connection.
I am amazed that ATT was so unhelpful on these issues. I was one of their first Uverse customers in Texas, and several times over the last years, techs would visit my house to solve a problem or hook something up, explaining to me as he went. That their helpful attitude is deteriorating is a real shame.

Printer Pinging problem?

Make sure your wireless workgroup/domain are the same as your wired network. If they are, you should reinstall the printer from control panel. Choose add network printer, choose the proper workgroup/domain, you should see the available printer, select it, it may need to download drivers and install them. Tim
