Question about Brother MFC-8460N All-In-One Printer

2 Answers

Ever since I replaced the toner, I've been getting echoes of whatever I'm printing, appearing about four inches lower on the page. For example, "Dear Tom" would show at the top of the letter as usual, and then four inches down, there would be a lightly printed "Dear Tom."

(1) Check the paper used meets the recommended paper specifications.
Damp paper, thick media or rough surfaced paper can cause the problem.
(2) Check the machine's environment. High temperature and high humidity
conditions can cause the problem.
(3) Check that the appropriate media type is selected in the printer driver.
(4) Try installing a new drum unit.

SOunds to me like you need to re-align the toner . Try entering printer software configuration.

When you print each page has a gray/black line running down the page from top to bottom about 2.5 inches from the edge of the paper. Sometimes it is darker and other times it is lighter. We have tried...

While the line is showing up on the output pages.
Stop printing and put paper in the manual feed tray (tray 1).
Start printing again. As a page gets pulled into the printer about 1/2 way open the top cover.
Pull out the toner and look at the page inside the printer. If it doesn't have the grey/black line, get the fuser replaced. It is defective.

I am having some very large, consistent streaks that just run across some of the top of my pages. If I print or copy out 20 pages only three or four will have this streak. It looks more like a stamping...

Sounds as though the fixing film assembly ( FM2-1793-020 ) in the fuser has developed a build up of toner causing what is normally called offset. You may also have to replace the lower pressure roller ( FC5-7207-010 ) also. You will have to remove the right side covers, door, and then the fuser assembly. Rebuilding the fuser has some challenges until you've done it a couple of times. Good Luck.

Ghost printing

Hello,

You have a worn image drum. The drum is the part of the printer that the print image is created on before it transfers the toner to the paper. This part is coated with a very thin layer of Teflon so the toner does not stick. When it gets worn the toner starts to stick and that produces the shadow or ghost image approximately 3 inches down the page because the diameter of the drum roller is 3 inches. You will need to get the part DR-350, Office Depot has them as well as many places on the internet.

I hope this helps, if so please rate our solution.

Black toner spots appear on print outs

You have something stuck on your drum. See page 125 of your manual to clean it--it's just isopropyl alcohol on a Q-tip, but don't scrub. This happens (too) often to some people I know.

Printing vertical grayish black ink on the left and right side of page

replace the toner cartridge, you wont have anything "dripping" out of it as the toner inside is a powder. if it still appears replace the fuser.
