I too have a cannon printer. There is a little lever on the cartridge itself, just stick your finger under it. UP it comes.

Black ink will not print but colors do

Most likely culprit is a dried up ink within the nozzles themselves. The best things for getting rid of dried ink in the nozzles is to use either a standard bathroom cleaner or rubbing alcohol. With the printer on open the door as if you were replacing ink. With the ink cartidges visable, unplug the printer so they stay put. Remove the cartridge and spray the cleaner in the where the ink is taking from the cartridge and clean it with whatever works. I really really good trick is if you have an old cartridge you can use a syringe to fill up the empty cartridge with your cleaning solution or rubbing alcohol. Insert the cartridge and run some test prints. This will for sure run the cleaner through the nozzle and hopefully dissolve the blockage.

I have a new black ink cartridge but my printer wont print because the color ink is empty is there a way to get it to print without refilling the colored ink since i only need black???

When printing in BLACK, a small amount of the COLOUR ink also is used.
This "trick" prevents the COLOUR ink-jets from clogging, due to not being used.

So, you need to have a "good" COLOUR ink-cartridge.

I have a Lexmark X4650 I refilled the cartridge and now I cannot get the printer to recognize the cartridge it prints black only and tells me Color is low . any suggestions on how to bypass this prob get...

I own a Cartridge World ink refilling store and I can't refill the Lexmark 36 and 37 cartridges. Your printer deactivates the electronics on this cartridge when the ink levels get low. Your printer needs a black and a color cartridge with functioning electronics to print. I NEVER recommend Lexmark printers. They are poorly made, don't accept refills easily, and have the most expensive ink across manufacturers and it is designed to clog your cartridge unless you use it quickly. If you keep this machine you are stuck buying Lexmark brand ink (the return program cartridges are a little cheaper though).

Question about ink cartridges

Hello,

The printer will take a little quantity of color ink though you are printing in black in order to get good quality. Hence it is not possible to print with just black ink cartridge without color cartridge.

Thank you.

Color ink cartridge is defective but black cartridge is okay.

No, you can't print with only one cartridge in the printer. The printer needs both of them to close the electric circuit. Remove the color cartridge and inspect it. Clean the electric contacts on it- sometimes, when the contacts are dirty, the printer cannot recognize the cartridge. If that doesn't do the trick, you will need to replace the color cartridge.

Problem with my color

Hi,

My apologies for a late reply. Your concern was just brought to my attention. Your printer is not a lemon. It actually is a very good and dependable printer. However to be good, it has to mix a little bit of the colors together with the black to get the desired shiny black print. Dependable in the sense that it also provides cleaning of itself but unfortunately consumes ink in doing so. So you can imagine why the printer would always require the color and or the color ink is consumed even if you are not printing any color images.

There is no solution when the printer senses that there is no longer any ink other than to replace the ink. But, there is a way to fool the printer into thinking that you have replaced the color ink even if in reality the cartridge is empty. To do this, I would have to ask a few questions pls:
  • are you able to download and install several programs that I would provide the link?
  • if ever required, would you able to do a little bit of mechanical work such as working on the cartridge. Mechanical that a hole may have to be enlarged?
  • are you willing to risk destroying one or two of your color empty cartridges?
  • it is also possible that the tricks would make the rpinter inoperable (although slim, but the possibility do exists)?
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and kind regards. Thank you for using FixYa.

Ink cartridge light keeps blinking

you need to print only in black if that is all the ink you have, and also you need to remove the color cartridge as it still registers in the printer as able to be used, although it is empty or near so. Did you remove the tape over the print head fron the new ink cartridge? Do a print head alignment, or use the toolbox icon to tell the printer that you just replaced the cartridge. Some HP models chip the ink cartridges so even a refill wont register as a full tank and the printer wont print. chip needs to be reset (difficult) or just replaced with a new cartridge.
