Question about Dryers

1 Answer

I'm trying to figure out how to get to the belt on a maytag mgd9606 gas dryer. It is the model where the door wraps around the top of the dryer. I've removed the small panel on the controls, but how do I get the top to lift? I've pried with a putty knife but it seems like that isn't the proper way.

Hi

Unplug the gas dryer and then shut off the gas completely before beginning any work. After this is done disconnect the exhaust hose so you can turn the dryer around to access the back panel. You can use a screwdriver to unscrew the round clamp that hold the exhaust hose to the back of the dryer, and then remove the Phillips head screws that hold the back panel in place and set the panel aside. Check this video for belt replacement:

Hope this helps...please post back for further assistance.

Most dryers are tension idler pulley directed but must first go around the grooved pulley on the motor shaft. make sure the idler goes on the smooth side of the belt and the grooved side of the belt is in the grooves on the motor shaft.

Replace a belt on indesit dryer

Hello.

Tools needed to solve the problem

(A)Standard screwdriver,New belt
.

1 Unplug your dryer to disconnect power to the unit.

2 Remove the screws that hold the dryer top in place using a standard screwdriver. The screws are located along the top and sides of the dryer. With older models -- 1996 and older -- the entire top comes off the dryer. For new models, the timer and console stay in place while the rest of the top comes off.

3 Remove the screws that hold the front panel and door in place using a standard screwdriver. The screws are just inside the door at the top front left and right sides of the dryer. The front panel on older models will move to the right side and on newer models the door will move to the left.

4 Remove the existing belt by pulling the idler pulley to the right. This will take the tension off the belt and allow you to pull it away from the motor pulley.

5 Install the new dryer belt by wrapping it around the top of the drum and allowing it to fall around the circumference of the drum. The grooves of the new belt should face down toward the drum. Rotate the belt around the drum to ensure there are no twists in it.

6 Connect the new belt to the motor pulley. On newer models you can access the motor pulley on the front underneath side of the dryer. Pull the idler pulley to the right and loop the belt around it. On older models you can access the motor pulley through an access panel on the back of the dryer. Pull the dryer away from the wall and remove the access panel using a standard screwdriver. Repeat the same steps as on a newer dryer to install the belt around the motor and idler pulleys.

7 Replace the front panel of the dryer and the screws that hold it in place.

8 Replace the top of the dryer and the screws that hold it in place.

9 Plug the dryer in and make sure the belt works properly before trying to use the unit.

Thanks.

Maytag gas dryer broken tumber belt. how do i replace it myself? the tumbler doesn't turn, the belt thah goes around it is broken. i need to put a new belt on.

Each dryer is made differently on how to access the drum (tumbler) and belt replacement. If you can provide a model #, that would be very helpful. On most dryers the model# is located on the door frame usually to the left when you open the door. This will get you started in the right direction.

How does the tumbler belt wrap around motor and tensioner?

First of all disconnect your dryer from power source. Remove the front door.Start from the motor shaft, the top of the belt must lying on the pulley. This is how to do it. Pull the pulley toward the motor shaft and let the top of the belt lying (rest) on the pulley, this will help the pulley to stand firmed and the drum belt will look tighten a bit.
This should solve your problem

Maytag gas dryer. Belt broken. How do I open and replace it?

On the right front and left front of the panel there are 2 phillips head screws. They are about 4 inches up from the floor. Remove these 2 screws, lift the door panel out then down to dislodge the top clips. Remove the door switch wires and set the door aside. Remove 4 screws from the front drum support. @ on the right,2 on the left. Remove the drum support.Install the belt around the drum. The smooth side of the belt goes against the drum. Re-attach all the parts in front. Remove the belt access panel on the rear of the dryer on the bottom right side facing the dryer to arrange the belt around the motor pulley and tension roller.

Replace dryer belt

Pull the front panel off, remove the top screws and tilt top back. Rout the new belt around drum at the old wear spot with the grooved side against the drum. Next remove the back access door and rout the belt around the idler pulley and motor pulley. There is only one way to do this and get proper tension on the belt.
Also, when you order the belt, ask if it has a belt routing diagram on the belt package.
