You will need to re-install the driver. Right click the device in device manager and select properties. Navigate to the driver section and uninstall all existing drivers. (It may *not* give you the option to do that, depending on how corrupted the driver is, but it should.)
Reboot the PC.
Upon reboot, Windows should find the new device and install generic drivers. It will probably ask you to reboot a second time.

No dvd/cd rom icon

From what I read, Acer Empowering software is no big deal. Some say it's fine, others say nothing worthwhile. If you aren't thrilled with it, you might consider uninstalling it and seeing if it brings your CD-rom back. If you want to keep it or uninstall of Empowering software doesn't work, uninstall the CD-rom and then let Windows rediscover and install it again.

Go into Device Manager, right click on CD-rom and choose uninstall. Close out and restart.

Dvd / cd rom not recognized on my computer list

1) Go to Control Panel. Open the System Icon.
2( Click on Hardware Tab, then click on Device Manager.
3) The device manager will list all of your hardware that is on your computer. If you see a yellow? mark oryellow ! mark next to your DVD/CD rom drive, simply click on it then click Repair. It also may tell you that it is not recognozied. Follow the directions.
4) If you do not see this in your Device Manager go to Add Hardware in your Control Panel which is next to your Add/Remove Programs icon. Click on Add Hardware and it will scan for all hardware.
** This should take care of your problem. If not then somehow the actual connection in your tower has come loose. If so you must open your tower and look for a loose wire going to your DVD/CD rom drive.
*** Please let me know if this corrects your problem.Simply email me(Phil) at: [email protected]
