Question about Toastmaster Kitchen Appliances - Others

1 Answer

My Toastmaster Waffle iron , Model W254 ,(1950) cord gets very hot when the iron is in use ,and particularly by the plug. It still makes great waffles but I'm concerned that something is failing. The cord is a woven black material with a silver/white thread running thru it. Thanks, Jim Snyder

Thank you for your help. I'll replace the cord as suggested. The one on E-bay,while showing the same part number , is round while mine is square . I guess that is feasible. Thanks again.

You are correct in being concerned, especially if the cord is getting very hot in one specifc spot.

The cord may look unbroken on the outside but there may be hidden damage inside. If one of the copper conductor wires inside the insulation covering is cracked or broken, the current jumping across that fault area will generate a lot of heat. Enough current may still flow to your waffle iron to operate it for now, but very soon the unit will probably stop working alltogether or even start a fire first. I would recommend tou stop using it until you take care of the problem.

If you are handy with a screwdriver and a soldering iron you can probably disassemble the unit and replace the power cord right at the terminals inside the power connector. Or you can just ask an electrician to do it for you.

it's unlikely you will find an exact factory new replacent cord for that model, but that does no really matter electrically speaking. As long as you get a HEAVY DUTY replacement power cord and solder it right onto the terminals inside the waffle iron connector, it should work fine.

Another option is just to order a old used model off Ebay and just use the power cord that comes with that one, assuming of course that one is not a problem too! You can probably pick up the older models pretty cheap these days. Here's a link to a Toastmaster W252 model for $10 on EBay which probably uses the same cord and connector as yours:

Just search for TOAST MASTER WAFFLE on EBay and you will see a long list of others for sale too.

Please comment back here to this page if you have any questions, have difficulty accessing the link, or just require further general assistance and I will respond as soon as I see it.

Thank you very much and good luck.

How to use the waffler by toastmaster model# 2810R026

  1. Preheat waffle iron. Beat eggs in large bowl with hand beater until fluffy. Beat in flour, milk, vegetable oil, sugar, baking powder, salt and vanilla, just until smooth.
  2. Spray preheated waffle iron with non-stick cooking spray. Pour mix onto hot waffle iron. Waffle is usually done when it stops steaming. Cook until golden brown.

The model # is stamped on the bottom side of the unit, or on bottom where the cord plugs into it. Once you have the model #, you can find a good used replacement cord on eBay.

Where do I find this perticular make and model? I need 2 or 3 of 'em

You are out of luck as this is an old problem the season is long past.
I am fairly shure that Toastmaster no longer makes this Pizzelle iron. A better solution is an American made Pizzelle Iron by C.Palmer
Built like a tank and will probably outlast you. I wouldn't buy a non stick appliance from anyone as the coating is easily damaged.
