Question about Sony VAIO K45 Notebook

1 Answer

VIAO PCG-K45 While cleaning my battery contacts I sprayed some contact cleaner on the plug in inside of the computer case. When I restarted by computer the back light would not come on after the initial boot. The back light does work because it lights the first part of safe mode but does not come on for the desk top. I connected an external monitor and the computer functions well otherwise. In the back of the battery compartment where the plug receptacle is located there is an opening into the area of the computer where the touch pad is located. A small amount of spray could have entered this area. The contact spray is rated for application to computer electronics. What could have happened and what should I do? Harry hlstiverson@live.com

What may have happened is the spray entered the laptop as you suspect and shorted some components. More likely is the LCD toggled to the external monitor. There is a three state toggle for most laptops the toggle is done by holding the Fn key and taping another key such as F5. It may be different with your laptop. The beginning state is LCD only, External monitor only and then both. I try to keep laptop in the both state to reduce confusion and it doesn't require any more power.
Another possibility is shorting of the LCD cable. This would could cause no display video, but would more likely show no video at all.
You should always allow the laptop to completely dry, usually over night, before powering it back on after cleaning of this sort.

My 32 inch philips tv remote volume botton can not increase d volume.

1) change the batteries by new ones by alkaline
2) clean the contacts batteries very well with special spray contacts cleaner.
3) Retight the springs contacts with plyer very well for better contact batteries.
4) Resolder the wires contact batteries.
5) Clean the keypads contacts with special spray contacts cleaner, you must open otherwise will not work.
6) or you must go to the repair shop.
God bless you

Fan is running hot and it makes one side of the computer very hot..laptop computer

That seems to be typical of that model. Oftentimes, it's the battery, microprocessor(s), or a combination of both. There are devices to cool the computer off, or you can use a small fan, that helps. Make sure it's not dirty inside (consult your manual on cleaning, or tech threads on this site). I wouldn't be alarmed, it seems to be typical with this model. Put the cd in and restart. If it doesn't give you a message to press "x" to boot from cd, then you need to chage the boot order in the BIOS.

To get into the BIOS, restart and press del or F2 (it might say something on the screen like press del to enter setup) that is the BIOS.

Change the boot order to CD first.
