Hello there,
You can doing a few things here. First, you can try to use a different camera cable. It may be that the cable that connects your camera to the laptop may be at fault. Second, try to connect the memory card directly to your computer. If you have a different computer or you can try someone else's just to test what could be the exact problem.
If you can post additional information like the error message, that would be best so that other experts can also help you in an accurate manner.
Good luck!

Where are my pictures?

ALTERNATE WAY TO TRANSFER PHOTOS AND VIDEOS TO A COMPUTER
If your photos and videos are stored on the memory card, then remove the memory card from the camera and insert it into an USB memory card reader. Connect this USB memory card reader and memory card into the USB port of your working computer. Your computer will see this as an USB Mass Storage Device or an external storage device; you can then open the folder on the memory card and copy the photos and to your computer. Memory card reader is a handy device and is inexpensive. You can copy photos from other cameras and you can also download photos off your memory card to someone else's computer without the need of installing any programs.

I took pictures on my camera without a memory card can i still download my pictures

I'm glad to provide the steps to transfer images from Internal Memory of the Camera. When the camera does not have a memory card in it, the images are saved by default to the camera's internal memory, which holds different amounts of images based on how many megapixels are built into the internal memory and what image quality and compression are selected in the camera's menu. Once a memory\picture card is inserted in the camera, the camera then saves the photos to the memory\picture card and ignores the internal memory.

There are two ways to transfer the images from the internal memory.

  • To transfer photos to a computer from the internal memory using the USB cable, first remove the memory card from the camera. Then, when the camera is connected, the computer and software will only see what is in the internal memory and transfer those photos or videos. During the transfer process, the computer makes copies of the photos and videos-the original images remain in the internal memory. After the transfer is complete and the camera is safely disconnected from the computer, the contents of the internal memory can be deleted by using the MEMORY FORMAT function in the SETUP menu in the camera's menus.

  • The other way to transfer photos from the internal memory is to transfer them to the memory\picture card using the BACKUP function in the SETUP menu. If there is no memory\picture card in the camera, the BACKUP function is grayed-out. During BACKUP, copies of the images are transferred to the memory\picture card-the original images remain in the internal memory. After the BACKUP is complete, the internal memory can be cleared by removing the memory\picture card and formatting the internal memory using the MEMORY FORMAT function in the SETUP menu in the camera's menus.

Note: When the camera is connected to a computer using the USB cable with a memory\picture card in the memory\picture card slot, the computer will only see the contents of the memory\picture card.

Thanks for understanding. Please let me know if you require any additional help.

If the "other" pictures have been taken with a differed camera your camera will not read the memory card until it is formatted to your camera. Formatting will erase all pictures on the card. You need to download the pictures to the computer. Format the memory card and then you will be able to transfer pictures from the internal memory to the memory card then to print or to the computer. You should format the memory card after each time you download the pictures to the computer.

I took 10 pictures without the memory card so the pictures are on the cameras memory i suppose. I'm now wanting to load them onto my computer but my picture program as well as computer can't see the...

Took a bit to find this this bad news in the manual but what happens now is to get the pictures from the internal memory to the computer as a down load you need to first insert a memory card format the memory card and load each picture from the internal memory onto the memory card one at a time once that is down then you can download the memory card to the computer then you will need to reformat the memory card and then go back into the internal memory erase each one of those images and format the internal memory. Now the GOOD news, you only have 10 pictures. Don't forget to do the formatting.

Xd memory card

A card access error may indicate that an xD-Picture Card memory card is in a write-protected condition. xD-Picture Card memory cards have a special protection feature to ensure that your pictures are kept safe. NOTE: During this condition, you can still use the printer for printing and saving photos from the xD-Picture Card to a secure location, such as the computer hard drive. To resolve this error, try the following:
  • Reinsert the xD-Picture Card memory card into your camera and turn on the camera. In most cases, the camera automatically makes the necessary changes.
  • Reformat the xD-Picture Card memory card. See the documentation that came with your camera for instructions on reformatting the memory card. Note that this process erases the pictures currently saved to your memory card. To save these pictures, transfer them to the computer before reformatting the memory card. Once you reformat the memory card, transfer those photos back to the memory card using the computer.

You can add memory to your camera by purchasing an xd memory card.
Compatible cards
xD-Picture Card (16MB – 1GB)
There are two ways to record the pictures you take with this camera.
Recording pictures to the internal memory
• Pictures are recorded to the internal memory, and when the number of storable still
pictures reaches 0, you must connect the camera to a computer to download the
pictures, and then erase the pictures from the internal memory.
Using an xD-Picture Card (optional)
• Pictures are recorded to the card when inserted in the camera. When the card is
full, you download the pictures to a computer, and then either erase the pictures
from the card or use a new card.
• Pictures are not recorded to the internal memory when a card is inserted in the
camera. Pictures in the internal memory can be copied to the card using the
[BACKUP] function.

Using USB Plug, Transferred Photos to Computer and Deleted Them.. Says the pictures are still taking up room on memory card..

Try putting the card in the camera and in the menu, select 'FORMAT' this will totally wipe the memory card, ready for use. You will find plenty replacement cables on Ebay, for about £7.00-8.00
