Question about Black & Decker String Trimmer Cordless 12" 18V

18v cordless string trimmer will not stop feeding line

Everything seems fine, but my new trimmer with a newly rewound spool will NOT stop feeding line---went through a full spool in less than 1/2 my lawn!! it spews out a 36 inch piece and then keeps trying to turn it even after it wraps around the spool cutting head. HELP

Thanks scatcat1. I verified line size before I rewound the spool. It seems to me that when I removed the spool to replace the line, the white plastic "cam" which forwards the line had some tension to it, like a spring perhaps---there is no tension now.Did I break a spring?

Some of the trimmers recommend a certain size line, if you have one of these that let line out as needed, the speed at which the trimmer cuts will let out line as needed. If you have too small of line the drag for the friction let-out you will spoll all the line out. Make sure the line is the right size, They come in alot of sizes, anywhere from .060" to .125" line thickness so make sure you have the right size line!

Possibly, I would go to the manufacturers web site if they have one or google the model you have and see if you can get an exploded view of the unit and see if you are missing any parts. Generally to operate the line let out mechanism, there will be a spring to return the spool to lock it out. Also make sure everything is well lubricated. Do not use petrolium based oils on plastic, they will eat the plastic. Sounds nuts but I use vegitable oils on plastic mechanical parts.

Hope that helps!! Let me know.

How do you advance the string

These little electric machines have an automatic line feeding system. Do not bump the trimmer head on the ground attempting to make line advance. If the line advance is not functioning like it should, then the string head should be removed and the spool inspected for snags and tangles.

String on weed wacker does not automatically advance.

the notice on the trimmer says it has an AFS Automatic Feed Spool, "NO BUMPING REQUIRED". I see that underneath the spool, there's a small plastic centrifugal weightwith a peg on it. . It kinda looks like it might advance the line each time the electric motor starts and stops. If there are loose clippings in there, or if the weight is stuck, it probably would cause the problem.

After putting new line in it does not self feed. I used right size line and everything seems to line up.

Possiblities are that the string is in a bind in the spool, sometimes this can happen if the string is wound to tight or too loose. Another possibility is that the string was wrapped in the wrong direction, I know have fallen victim to this in the past as well. Try these two ideas, and you should be fine. I hope this helps

I am trying to spool trimming line into my black and decker GH1000. It is supposed to feed automatically. It is not. I'm afraid I fed the line onto the spool incorrectly. Need help

Yes, it does feed automatically.
Please make sure the trimming line spooled in your spool regularly.

If above does not work, please go to service center to change a lever inside spool housing.

How to feed line into a black and decker trimer/edger model st6000 electric?

The ST6000 uses centrifugal force. Once you mount the new spool of string and thread it out of the feeder and into the housing below, plug it in, give it power and hold the line feed button down, feeding the line. Within seconds, the line will feed out through the head and you'll be in business.

Corded black and decker trimer

Please check your line diameter. If you are using stronger line than specified in the manual, it could be the root cause.
