Question about Vacuums

Open Question

Fuse keeps blowing on the the Vortext Cotton Candy Machine model number 6301. It uses a 10 Fuse. I have gone through 3. There are two switches, a voltage meter and a fuse on the front of the machine. It is brand new and out of the box. It appears to be a common problem and I need to fix mine quick. After reading the instructions I took the machine out of the box, plugged it in, turned on the power button and turned on the 'controller' switch', but when I did that I saw the voltage meter go from 0 to 105 and the light behind the 'controller' switch went out and the voltage meter went back to 0. The recommneded voltage is 100-110 from the instruction booklet. I turned it off and unplugged it, pulled the fuse out and it was blown, replaced the fuse after a trip to home depot ($5.00 for 2), and tried it again. The same results. Please help me. I want to fix my machine and not have to send it back if possible. I'm a big believer in if I fix it I won't have to deal with another one and wait to do the same thing. Suzi

SOURCE: Miele S514 Solaris Electro - won't turn on

I don't have the exact same model as you guys, but maybe my situation is similar to yours. My Miele Silver moon model won't turn on one day. I took it to a Miele authorized repair shop ( they all offer free estimate on finding the problem first, then they will tell you what the repair cost will be). They said my vacuum cord reel shim was damaged. The damage was caused by over stretching the cord while I vacuumed. According to them the shim is kind of like a clip that holds the cord inside the vacuum. When the shim is damaged, the cords are pulled apart and electricity can no longer pass through. That would expalin why it won't turn on. The repair cost was not too bad, it costed forty-six dollars. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Central Vac will not turn on.

These problems are nearly exclusively caused by a bad circut board and replacing it is the fix. Bad boards can cause many different effects so its nearly impossible to be sure. The 9v signal wire is not enough to short out an entire unit so it is unlikely the hose. If it is a direct connect system and you are pulling power from the 110 somehow that would cause main unit problems but that is unlikely at best. Sounds like a failed board to me.

Best of Luck

How do you get to the fuse in the dc28?

The 3-pin mains plug will have a plastic fuse holder which can be levered open with a small screwdriver. Look on the pin side of the plug. There will also be small writing on the plug to tell you which size of fuse is fitted to the plug. Replace with the same size of fuse. It is important to note that the fuse in the mains plug is only likely to blow if there is an electrical issue inside the machine, so replacing the fuse may just result in the fuse blowing again. If this happens then the vacuum needs proper checking and repair. DO NOT try using a bigger fuse, as you may cause more damage to the vacuum, or cable overheating or risk of electric shock.

I have 2 cotton candy machines. One says 25 amps and the other says 30 amps on it. I would like to take either one of them to parties at people's houses, but am afraid of blowing fuses. Is there...

Hi marieu2005..
The only way to avoid blowing breaker or fuses is to ask the person do they have an available 25/30 amp socket, and you need it to fit the plug you have on your machine.

Cannot get it to turn on

Hi,

This could be because of 4 reasons.

1. Fuse in plug has gone - Check this first
2. Switch has gone - Unlikely
3. Powercable is disconnected from the switch
4. Motor has failed

Try number 1 first and then come back to me

Hi and welcome to FixYa. I am Kelly.

1st the model number appears to be incomplete. Not an issue at this point but will be if you need parts.

You most likely have an interlock problem with one of the 2 door switches or the door interlock mechanism is broken.
There are 3 safety interlock micro switches activated by the door. One for the light, one for the Magnetron and one for the control panel power. If the problem persists with the Magnetron disconnected. The Magnetron safety interlock micro switch is supposed to blow the fuse if the unit is energized with the door open. Check continuity of your door interlocks. Pat particular attention to the NC (normally closed), C (Common) and NO (Normally Open) contacts.
NC should read to C and when the switch is activated read open at which time the NO contact will read to C.

I really suspect a bad microswitch.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

Vacuum is not turning on. Is there some kind of a reset switch or a fuse that could have gone out?

There is no reset switch. First try a different electrical outlet. If that doesn't work, you may have to replace the power switch. Call the Dyson Helpline, they'll register your vacuum cleaner and direct you to your nearest repair dealer.

If your machine turned off whilst you were using it you have a blockage in the machine and you are experiencing a Thermal cut-off. Call the Dyson Helpline, they will talk you through looking for a blockage and help you find it.

Clogged vortex holes

I had these same issues. It came down to my husband beating the **** out of it several times. He'd take the canister apart, pound it on the ground, use a hair dryer to blow out as much as we could, a hanger down the top to pull out any hair we could grab. Then I'd use it -- it definitely loosened up some stuff. He'd pounded on it again and more stuff came loose. Don't know if it's fixed, but it's got it's suction back. Now I have have hose suction issues.

It felt good to beat on it a bit.....

I had the same problem with the same model. Turned out to be the thermal fuse on the motor housing, between the switch and the windings. Took it apart and replaced the melted solder with 14 guage copper wire. Works fine! No thermal protection but I don't use it for long at a time anyway. Check the switch for continuity, if good then check the thermal fuse for continuity. If good, it's the motor.

This is a EURO-PRO X Shark Steamer Model S3325, there doesn't seem to be any power in plugged in, no lights on the handle. Bad switch or is there a fuse?

There is usually a heat sensitive fuse link installed in the handle and is incorporated in the cord connection. If the machine gets too hot or is run while dry, the fuse can blow. You would have to replace the fuse, as they are not resetable.
