The internal SS panel is attached by two machine screws to the hinges so I am assuming that you are NOT talking about removing it. Having removed the 8 torx screws as instructed the outside panel does not pull off, at least not without a lot of force which I don't want to exert at this time.

    Now what do I do??

I am here with the door of the dishwasher open with the screws removed. Your prompt reply would be appreciated.

  • terbaugh Apr 07, 2011

The complete model # of my machine is KUDP01ILBL2. The last two I assumed were the color.

There are a total of 5 screws on each side. The top one seems to be holding the control panel on. Does this, the control panel, need to be removed also?

When I try to remove the top of the front panel I can only grasp it with my fingertips. When I pull I am leaving indentations in my fingers without getting the panel off. I can pull harder, but it appears to be held in the middle of the panel somewhere, i.e. the inner and the outer are bending in the middle. Is there some double sided tape holding the insulation in? If I pull will it split?

What you have said make sense, but in fact is not working.

  • terbaugh Apr 07, 2011

Removing the four screws along the top of the inner panel allows the control/latch panel to fall loose, hanging on the wiring which makes me nervous.

The outer panel still is firmly attached to the inner panel. I cannot move it up, moving parallel to the inner panel, or pull it straight out perpendicular to the inner panel .

It "feels" like it is glued to the styrofoam insulation that is in turn glued to the inner panel, but I am still not sure that I can or should just pull it loose. I am wondering that if I do that, I will bend the panel and crease it.

Just how is the panel attached other than the screws?

Is that a way to view all our conversation at once?

  • terbaugh Apr 07, 2011

There appears to be no connection between the vent and the outer panel. I don't think that is the answer.
What else is there? How long will my $18 last ?

  • terbaugh Apr 07, 2011

I have to go to work now. Will read my email tonight around 8:00 PM.

  • terbaugh Apr 08, 2011

I still am at work and will not be able to try what you show until Sunday.
Like I said, Everything you have said is reasonable. But I cannot pull the top out as shown in the picture, and I am reasonably sure the vent is not holding it. I believe that somehow the insulation has been glued on both sides and it will split when I force it open. Will you be available on Sunday?

  • terbaugh Apr 11, 2011

It is Sunday Evening and I ready to start again. What your pictures don't show is part# "8531330 Brace, Foam" which I think is glued to both the inside and outside panels. At least this is what I think I feel when I try to pry it open. The part # come from a parts list I got from KitchenAid. Do you have this?

    My email address is

How do I see the entire conversion? When I get your email with link, all I see is your answers. How can I see my comments into you responses.

Hope to get to working on dishwasher today.

Welcome to FixYa.

To access and replace the dispenser is relatively easy...once you know how. To do so is as follows...based on the model KUD01IL

**Turn off the power or unplug the unit before first**

1) Locate and remove the outer door panel screws, (they will be torx head number 10 or 15...either will work) there should be four on each side, you do not have to remove those along the top. The panel should then come off.

2) remove the wires going to the solenoid on the dispenser.

3) Now remove six screws holding the dispenser in place, they will be a hex head of 3/16". The dispenser will also have a couple of tabs which must be released to allow it to come through the inside of the panel.

4) You should now be able to install the new dispenser in the reverse order. **When putting the outer door panel back on it is easier if you slide the bottom down over the hinges and then tuck in the top part before trying to fasten the screws**

Let me know how you make out or if you require any further assistance going forward. Good luck.

Thanks for choosing FixYa.

If your model number is correct that is indeed the only screws holding the panel. You may need to pull the top of the outer panel forward slightly and then lift it up over the should come right off with force.

Do not attempt to remove the screws holding the inner panel into the hinges...I am only talking about the outer panel here asc I mentioned in step 1 of my initial post.

    I'll watch for your reply.

    Hello again,

Thank you for clarifying the model number. I may have entered the model number wrong, my bad. You do indeed need to remove the screws alont the top as well and then inner and outer should separate with the console/control panel still intact.

As for the info for replacing the dispenser, that should still apply to your model. Again my apologies for the mix up and also the delayed reply. I'm fighting with a pretty poor internet connection on my mobile presently as well.

I'll keep an eye on your progress report, It should certainly come apart now...with any force.

OK. All I think now is to try unscrewing the round gray vent cover in the upper left hand side of the inner panel. It should only need to be turn 1/4 turn to release it.

Sorry about the confusion here. This has to be one of the "cross-over" machines around the time they where consumed by Whirlpool and the diagram I have isn't very detailed, as you can see for yourself by clicking on this link...

Let me know if that works of course and we'll contiunue from there. Good luck.

    Hello again,

I'm going to attach some images directly from the official service guide for your manufacturer (Whirlpool) isn't really anything I've already covered, but maybe the images will help.

Don't get hung up on the fact the inner panel isn't stainless steel. They are all essentially the same aside from plastic tub vs. stainless steel.

Please keep me posted how you make out. I find this one particularly interesting since all the "normal" methods have not been helpful. Good luck.

It is presently around 4:30-5:00pm MTN time where I am, so I hope you'll receive this in a reasonable time that I can answer any other question you may have before I go to bed around 10:00 pm MTN.

I also have the "job aid" manual for your dishwasher I could provide you, but that would have to be sent to you via email attachment, so you'd need to provide an email address to receive it, it is in a "pdf".

    Hello again.

So knowing the rest of the images I provided are correct ( I assume as you didn't mention differently ) then the insulation should not be glued to anything.

It may have become stuck in some fashion, but it is not held with adhesive from Whirlpool. Can you possibly send a photo via a camera phone or attach it on here as a jpg. file ? It must be smaller than 150kb to do so on here though.

    I'll watch for your reply.

Kitchenaid dishwasher soap dispenser will not open during cleaning cycle

There are three common problems that cause the Soap Dispenser or Cup not to open. I have a tip that will explain these problems in detail....

Dishwasher Repair Problem Detergent Cup does not Open

1 Answer

Detergent door does not open, it completes cycle without using the detergent

  1. The most common problem with the detergent doors on KitchenAid dishwashers is that they either don't open during the cycle or open only halfway. Before looking into more complicated repairs, make sure that the door is able to open. Check the seal around the door and the door latch for soap- and food-related gunk, and scrub it off if present. Sometimes this can keep the detergent door from operating properly. Consider switching detergents, as some liquids and pouch-style dish detergents can gum up the detergent dispensers. Also, make sure that there is nothing blocking the detergent door when the dishwashermag-glass_10x10.gif is loaded. Because of the location of the detergent door, a large item such as a cookie sheet or a pan can prevent the door from opening. Run the dishwasher through a cycle without anything placed in front of the detergent dispenser and see if that solves the problem.
  2. Broken Timer
  3. KitchenAid dishwashersmag-glass_10x10.gif rely on an internal timer to complete the wash cycle properly. When this timer malfunctions, certain steps in the wash process (such as the release of soap from the detergent dispenser) can be interrupted. If the dishwasher detergent door is either not opening or appears to be opening late in the cycle, this is likely the mechanical culprit. A broken timer isn't something that's simple to replace without knowledge of dishwasher repair, so it's best to consult a professional if you suspect that this is the problem.
  4. Malfunctioning Door Components
  5. For the detergent door to function properly, all of its mechanical components must be in working order. Older dishwashers' detergent doors rely on a spring-loaded hinge to pop all the way open when the timer gives the signal. If the door doesn't swing all the way open instantly when it's manually released, the spring may need to be replaced for the dispenser to operate properly. If the particular model is newer and does not rely on a spring to open the door, chances are it either uses a wax motor or a bi-metal switch to release the detergent door at the appropriate time. If either of these components is dying, that can mean that the detergent dispenser will not operate properly.

Bosch Aquasensor Detergent Dispenser door wont open during cycle

Behind the dispensor door there is a small selanoid you will need to replace this, test to see if its open circuit, alternatively you can just place the detergent in side the machine before you put it on a wash cycle is this would have the same effect. the only cycle you can not do this on is the one with the prewash, I think its number 1.

Detergent will not dispense during the wash cycle

Something simple you can check is to make sure the spring that flips open the door is not broken or caked up with detergent.

As for the soap not dissolving, I've had similar problems and the only solution I've found is to make sure you are not blocking  the spray jet on the bottom from hitting the soap drawer.
