Question about Acer Aspire One PC Notebook
With Ubuntu 10.4, 1GB will run it, but sometimes it will need a bit more, so consider putting in another 1GB stick. With 2GB it's almost flawless.
Other than that... the reason it seems that the screen greys out is because the OS is not responding well to the driver for the video in the laptop. I would look up the drivers for it, and see if there is an updated version that Ubuntu might take.
In my opinion, it might be a combination of the two things I stated above. The blacking out might occur due to the driver, but the length of time might be affected by the RAM.
