Question about Kenmore 63942 Dryer

1 Answer

Dryer Hum I have a Kenmore dryer that will turn on, and the drum rotates. I has, however, developed a hum when turned on. I haven't left in on but for a couple of minutes so I don't know if it is heating up. What should I look at first for repair?

Usually this is a sign of a bad motor.

Kenmore dryer 70 series doesn't always start, sometimes it will just put out a buzzing sound after its been running and trying to restart, will start back up after 20-30 minutes.

Open the dryer door and slowly rotate the dryer drum in a counterclockwise (CCW) direction. Rotate the drum 2-3 revolutions and then shut the door and see if it will start. If it continues to just hum and not start could indicate a voltage issue, motor issue or a friction issue. Open the door again and locate the door switch plunger in the upper or lower corner on the hinge side of the drum opening. Hold the plunger in while someone begins rotating the drum counterclockwise. While turning the drum counter clockwise and holding the door switch plunger inwards press the start button. If it starts, there is likely a friction problem or motor problem.

When I push the start button, the dryer does not come on, but it just hums.

Check to see if you can rotate the drum. if you cant then you need to check the blower wheel. If you can then hold the door switch in and start the dryer. if it starts to hum rotate the drum while holding the door switch in. if it runs on it own after you rotate it then you need a new motor

The dyrer will not turn on. The dryer makes a humming noise but will not turn on.

Also, check the blower on the dryer to see if a article of clothing may have gotten stuck there and preventing the motor from running.

Have a Kenmore 90 series gas dryer. When I press the button to turn it on, it makes a noise but won't start

Assume the buzzing quit when you release the start button. Open the dryer door and slowly rotate the dryer drum in a counterclockwise (CCW) direction. Rotate the drum 2-3 revolutions and then shut the door and see if it will start. If it continues to just hum and not start could indicate a voltage issue, motor issue or a friction issue. While turning the drum counter clockwise and holding the door switch plunger inwards press the start button. If it starts, there is likely a friction problem or motor problem. Check the blower fan and motor for any obstructions.

The drum on my kenmore 70 series dryer won't turn and the dryer won't get heat up either. The drum will start to turn if we take the lid off and manually push it but not automatically

The dryer will not heat till the motor starts . If the dryer makes a hum when you activate the start switch' but won't start, then either the motor switch is bad or full of lint. If there is no hum then the start switch may be bad.

LG DLE5977W dryer has stopped and developed a motor hum. How can I fix it?

I am assuming that the hum indicates the motor is running but the drum is not turning.  Possibly a broken drum belt however the check filter warning is indicating low air flow so the blower wheel could be broken at the connection to the motor shaft.

The dryer just makes a humming noise when I turn it on, but won't turn all the way on

When you say it won't turn all the way on, does that mean the drum isn't rotating?

If yes, the belt from the motor that goes around the drum might have broken and you can hear the hum of the motor spinning but no longer rotating the drum.

The other thing I can think of is that the motor itself has failed, possibly seized, and you can hear the motor trying to spin but it cannot. With the dryer unplugged and empty of clothes, try to rotate the drum. If it rotates extreamly easily, then the belt has broken. If you cannot rotate it at all by hand, then chances are the motor is seized. It should rotate with moderate effort.

the bearings in the motor are locked up. they are sealed so you have to replace the motor to fix it.
