Question about Sony PRS-505 eBook Reader

Open Question

I dropped my PRS 505. I can no longer turn it on or off manually. When I gently shake the Reader I hear something rattle. I think this is a mechanical problem. I can, however, turn it on by connecting to my Reader library on my computer. Thereafter, I can disconnect from the computer and use the Reader without a problem. The screen is intact and there is no distortion of the print. After a period of inactivity (no page turning) it shuts off. Then, I repeat the connection to my computer to turn it on again. I would like to have the manual on/off feature back. I'm sure my Reader is past the warranty period. I'm tempted to unscrew the back and make my own repair. What do you think? Thanks for any guidance. Nell

SOURCE: My sony reader has stopped working. When I click

Just spent 2.5 hours figuring on this out with a Mac. Sony customer support was TOTALLY worthless. Finally figured out my PRS-505 firmware was not up to date. This is a problem because there is no indication of a firmware update on the Mac support page since you cannot update the firmware using a Mac. Out of desperation I checked the Windows updates and there it was - the firmware update that was needed to make this work. I took a chance and updated it on Windows 7 using Parallels and it FINALLY WORKS. Days like this I wonder why the hell I gave up paper books. Here hoping that Apple can make a decent tablet so Mac users are not 2nd class citizens in the eBook world. Unh. What a way to spend a Saturday afternoon.

SOURCE: sony PRS600 "do not disconnect"..slow to charge

The circle with a line through the Reader and the message that says "Do not disconnect" will appear on the Reader while it will be connected to the Computer. This is a normal operation. And the Reader requires to be connected at least 4 hours to get it fully charged. Please keep connecting the Reader at least 4 houtrs to get it fully charged.

SOURCE: The Sony PRS-600 Reader has a well-known screen

The PRS600 Reader doesn't have any settings to increase the brightness and contrast. Howevver, this is not a well-known issue with the PRS600 Reader. You may try resetting the Reader by pressing the RESET button. If the issue still persists, unfortunately the Reader may require service. Please follow the link to get it repaired: http://eservice.sony.com

Hi there ok Generally when this happens, something has fallen into the printer, or a piece of paper has been jammed in there.

First step, remove the ink cartridge, and turn the printer upside down and gently shake it, see if anything comes out.

If nothing goes, or you can't hear anything rattling around, get a piece of cardstock paper (60lb or heavier) and gently push this through the printer, to see if it will help push out what might be stuck in there

Please come back and just gave a vote, it will gave me some satisfaction to know am helping some one so I will keep on helping.

Try reseting the reader through poking the hole in the back.

If this works let me know ... Also remember to EJECT the device before unplugging.
