Question about Harman Kardon SoundSticks Computer Speakers

2 Answers

Hi Just received these but cannot turn the sound up. Sound level is very low even with the PC volume control at 100%. Neither the up or down volume cotrol buttons on the R/H speaker do anything at all.

    Hi
The touchpads don't do anything. I have sound (better on I-tunes than direct from the PC), but poking away at the touchpads does nothing. For a system with 40 watts I would have expected a fairly noticeable output. This I haven't got. I suspect that the problem is with the touch controls, and that things are stuck on low. I don't want to send the kit back if there is an easy answer.

Does that mean "go away and don't bother me"?

  • mickambrose Apr 07, 2011

The wires are OK, I get sound.
Don't want to repair, they're new.

  • mickambrose Apr 07, 2011

Before I go for replacement I wanted to make sure that there is nothing else that can affect the volume controls on these speakers.
Can they be overidden by anything else i.e. the computer's sound card settings etc.?

Was hoping that there was an answer without returning the kit, but it's on its way back.

First of all try the unit out on a different computer or on a stereo or television audio output signal just to see if the problem is with the speakers or with the computer / speaker combination.

If the HK speakers react the same way to all inputs then the problem is with the speakers. It sounds like the amplifier inside is not working at all. I would check the external power supply adapter with a multimeter to make sure it is providing the correct voltage. If you get no voltage from the adapter then just buy yourself a suitable replacement with the same power specs and plug size and try again.

If the adapter is good, then the problem is with the amplifier inside and you should bring it back to your place of purchase if possible for a refund or exchange. If your warranty is expired and you are unable to repair the unit yourself, then you may be looking at a significant repair bill compared to the initial purchase price of the unit.

Please comment back here to this page if you have any questions or just require further general assistance and I will respond as soon as I see it.

Thank you very much and good luck.

Joe.

Your harman kardon sound sticks have sensitive touch controls for raising, lowering or muting the system volume, check whether they are un-mute. Towards the base of one of the satellite speakers are two chrome finished plates, those are touch volume plus and minus pads. It seems that these units default to low level if not used for some time.

Just try touching the + pad. Also check your speaker's wires that are connected to the computer, if they are faulty change them.

If the touch controls of your device does not work properly, then you have nothing to do here.

Did you check your device connection wire that are connected with your computer. if the wires are ok, then you may need to repair your Harman Kardon Sound Sticks Computer Speakers volume control pad, because if they are not working properly, you can not set your volume in proper way.

If they are new, please go for warrantee/replacement.

Probably not without using separate amplified speakers. Check the mixer levels are set correctly.

I set the volume to 40. After a little while the volume starts dropping down. If you do not turn the volume back up the volume will eventually go to zero all by it self and turn off the system.

Sound plays but very low volume even if plug to speakers and amplifier and full volume, you hardly hear anything. Hoping for a solution. Regards,

right click on the speaker icon in the system tray on the bottom right side of the screen and then click to open the volume mixer then make the speaker sound level to 100 %.

or go to the control panel from there click on the sound or speaker icon to open it after that go to properties and then make the volume level to 100%.

This should help to fix the problem.

Sound is low

try to see if the wave volume is on and maximum on the volume panel ( double click on vol icon on tray system (right low) ) ...also see if your speakers are plugged into the proper place ...and are not in the auxiliary out or something like this ...they should be plugged into the green middle out ...if they are simple stereo 3,2 jack ...so ..if the problem its still on ..its probably the sound card...(actually the pre-amplifier on it ..)

Volume at 100% and sound too low to watch dvd tried with several dvds and volume is too low

Hi,

Just cross check the volume settings in volume controls. All the sliders should be at max level specially Volume Control and CD Player.

If it is fine then there is some thing wrong with the media you are trying to watch or can be problem with audio driver.

If the sub has a volume control, turn it down then turn up the volume on the amp to the very high volume you mentioned. If it still has very low muffled sound, then we know the problem is about the amp.
