Question about Lenovo ThinkPad SL500 Laptop Computer (2746N9U) PC Notebook

2 Answers

Hello! I've a Lenovo SL500. It's 2 years old. This was initially with Vista OS. Recently I have upgraded it with Windows 7. Now it's getting extremely hot, after few minutes of booting. The fan starts running. What is the problem? Should I switch back to Vista?

Hi,

Windows 7 is basically windows Vista BUT with all the bugs ironed out
It uses mostly all the same drivers and works on the same hardware

SO your laptop should have no problem running windows 7

If you have installed a high version of windows 7 and Vista was only the Basic edition for example
then the reason it is getting hot will probably be because the version of Windows 7 has all the special effects turned on and it is causing your graphics card / cpu to overheat and thus making the fan come on all the time.

I would leave windows 7 on, its much better than vista and less problems

You could try right clicking on the desktop or taskbar and going to properties
You can change things like, shadows on icons and text, glass see through windows

Goodluck

I want lenovo wirless driver for Y410-7757 model for win 7 32 bit.

From Windows 7 and up, for all hardware that is certified with Microsoft, you can download the drivers from Microsoft. Lots of hardware is recognised when connected and will initiate a download from Microsoft. But not all hardware will do so and not all hardware is compatible (same as not certified by Microsoft from Windows 7 and up) with the new operating systems.

Most things that worked fine with Windows XP and or Vista, can fail with Windows 7 and 8, because the factory that made the hardware in the first place does not ask for certification with Microsoft for their old Hardware. They only spend time and money to get their new hardware certified on the new operating systems. So to make sure your hardware is compatible with the OS. Check the manual and find out, what you have to do so it will work on your computer.
There is no special Lenovo driver, unless the hardware in your laptop is made by Lenovo. In that case the driver will be on your computer after you installed Windows 7. Perhaps you call something a driver but need something else?

Where to get audio and video drivers??

Usually Windows 7 will apply the drivers. You have looked here: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-46258 If this is a OS upgrade, it's a common issue, if you open the Device Manager do you see Unknown Devices? What drivers do you need , 32 or 64bit? Often you can use the Vista drivers, modify the Vista driver and change compatibility to Windows 7.

Ibm thinkpad r31 windows vista video drivers

The OS will ,USUALLY, apply a generic driver to the Graphics Adapter, and most essential components. Not always, but usually, when it boots the first thing you do is Windows Updates. You may have problems with some hardware when doing a OS upgrade. It can be tricky. If, say, you jump from XP to 7, you may be able to use vista drivers. Your in luck, on the ThinkPad R31 support website Vista and Win 7 drivers are available, SEE: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&DocID=HT072387 Go with Win 7, if you have that option.

I down graded from vista to xp cant install drivers

Hello,

As for your problem Toshiba is not did not bother creating a Windows XP compatible drivers for the Model L500-018 as it is their high end Notebook for the year 2007 and discontinued it on 2009. what you can is to upgrade from Windows Vista Home to Vista Premium for more functionality and XP compatibility or upgrade to much better Windows 7 as the Vista drivers are accepted by windows 7 OS.

Hope this helps.

Not sure what happened ,lost parts of my os for vista home premium 64 bit ,no sound, not even beepcodes,no text when atempting restore ,limited control in command promt, still have some stuff ,pictures...

Which do you have - Vista Home Premium or Vista Home Basic? The title of this question category and what you said you have doesn't match. I'll assume you had Home Premium 64 Bit. Yes you can upgrade to Windows 7, 64 Bit. Please be aware that there is the 64 Bit and the 32 Bit versions. Check with your OEM of the computer before you upgrade. In the upgrade process, Windows 7 will create a folder called "windows.old" once the install has completed. There you will find the data you had from the old operating system like pictures and documents. Before you do the upgrade, I recommend downloading and installing the Windows 7 Advisor to check on any software and hardware issues - the advisor will list those problems before you can upgrade so that you can make the corrections.

How could i get windows vista into my windows xop for free

Unless your PC is fairly new you will not be able to run Windows Vista in the first place even if you could get a legal copy of it for free which I know of no way of doing. Go here http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/upgrade-advisor.aspx and see if your PC will even run Vista. The upgrade advisor will tell you if your PC can even run Vista. You have XP which is a stable OS after many years of updates. My advice is to stay as you are until you buy a new PC. When you do purchase Windows 7 and forget Vista. I just upgraded from Vista to Windows 7 and it is superior to Vista hands down.

Audio driver for windows 7 ultimate

Your Driver might be incompatible or incorrect driver. Check carefully, if you install it incorrectly, your PC could be at risk.

Since Windows 7 is a new operating System. Most Manufactures don't have the drivers of it. Talk to your Computer Adminstrator or contact one.

Windows 7 has recently released, so it's not recommend to upgrade it. You can rollback to Vista or XP with the System Restore if you wish.

You can also contact or email Microsoft for more info.
