To clear the ink absorber is a daunting task and doing what they say may be a less painful solution. However you could try it yourself but you are looking at an aprox. 75% strip of your printer, the absorber sits at the bottom right had corner of the machine and it is a long drawn out procedure.
There are instructions for replacing and cleaning ink absorbers on You Tube and also instructions for resetting the printer. It is too involved and lengthy to try repeat here. Try looking at:-
