Maybe the cpu thermal temperature is over, its because the cpu fan are untight.
or try to setup the bios look for fail safe default setting, then, save and exit.
you can setup the bios upon booting, follow the instruction if what key you need to press on to enter setup.

My battery charges but only lasts about 20 minutes once it says it is fully charged. Just purchsed a new battery thinking it was old (laptop is about 3 years old) and the same thing happens.

From what you describe and assuming the new battery was "new", I'd say you have an internal short which is draining the battery over a short period of time. I'd also investigate the accuracy of the battery charge indicator. Download this free utility which will give you a more accurate picture of your battery:
http://www.mioplanet.com/products/batterymeter/

I'm assuming you gave the battery a "commissioning charge" when you bought and used it?
If not, this is something you should do with all new LI batteries. This bit is reproduced from a website that sells batteries for the Toshiba satellite series:

"2. The new Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery pack needs to be circled (fully discharged and recharged) three to five times to reach its optimum performance.
3. Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery will undergo self-discharging when left unused for a long period of time. Thus, it should always be stored in a fully charged state and kept in a cool, dry and clean place.
4. It is normal if the new Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery gets warm when being charged or used. However, please pay special attention if the battery pack becomes excessively hot. This may indicate there is a problem with the charging circuit of the electronic device. Please consult a qualified technician if necessary.
5. To maintain the optimum performance of Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery pack, it is highly recommended to circle (fully discharging and recharging) it at least once a month.
6. New batteries are hard to be charged. Sometimes, your electronic device may indicate a fully charged condition about 10 to 15 minutes when Toshiba Satellite a205-s4777 battery pack is being charged for the first time. When this happens, remove the battery pack and let it cool down for about 10 to 15 minutes then repeat the charging procedure. Sometimes, the new Satellite a205-s4777 battery will suddenly refuse to be charged. If this happens, a suggested solution is trying to remove the battery from the device and insert it again. "

The processor ic is getting to hot, the bottom of the laptop needs to be removed to check the cooling fan is running, dirt will need to be removed from the heat sink fins and fan. The heat sink should be removed to clean off the old thermal conductive paste including the ic, then fresh applied to improve heat dissipation. In most cases this will cure the problem.

I installed a new battery and its not lasting for the time remaing. what should my battery be set on normal full power high power saver power

Toshiba usually has a power configuration utility for this... when on battery, reduce your inactive time values to the minimum... suggested ...screen off in 1-2 minutes and harddrive should shut down in 2-5 minutes. system standby in 15 minutes, hibernate in 1 hour.

My son is telling me that the car can not be running more than 15 minutes before the gauge shows that it is hot... could it be the water pump or the thermostat

15 minutes is about right to heat up an engine, are you saying it's getting too hot? water/antifreeze level? water pump maybe. Start it from cold let it idle until it's hot, does the fan come on and the guage go down then the fan turn off? If it does and fluid levels are good it's working fine

Well it sounds like you ran the belt the wrong way. Water pumps will not work properly so then it will get hot. And as far as electrical is concerned....hmmmmm maybe run the belt correctly then remove the battery cable for about 10 or 15 minutes to see if your computer will reset itself. Does the engine crank and not start or does it do nothing when you turn the key?

TP55E50 video goes out

Trouble maybe one of the control IC there is defected or cold solder of joint of the parts causing intermittent problem. Cold solder issues - each component is soldered into small holes on the printed circuit board which in turn connects said component to the other components. Due to time, heat, use, some solder joints would be cracked or loose. It is possible that the cold solder is still minimally connected (hanging by a thread). When the receiver turns on heat would be generated which would be sufficient to further loosen up the solder joint to the point it no longer provides electrical contact. Jarring the unit creates movement inside enough to re establish the contact, sometime good enough sometimes not enough.

Again, since the unit still operates (sometimes) then it is highly probable that there are no defective components. As you have surmised, it is possibly a loose connection, solder joints are "connections" except that molten soldering lead is used to attach/connect the component to the board, "loose connection" in this sense is equal to "cold solder".

Again on the assumption of no defective parts, then seeking a more experienced buddy for the soldering might be to your advantage. This is of course in addition to the possible electrical hazards when repairing....If i have helped, please click fixya. It is the only way i get paid for my work...

Hope this may help you;
