Dvd-ram INSTEAD OF dvd-rom

Hello everybody

I have a problem with the cd/dvd burner of my laptop (ASUS A6000KM).
Since 2 years I've been struggling with the damned TS-L632 (Toshiba-Samsung) recoder that coudn't burn any kind of disc.

2 days ago finally I decided to change my driver and I bought a LABEL-FLASH DVD Multi Recoder R DL.
But, I can't understand why, my system considers it as a DVD-RAM
instead of a normal and usual DVD/CD (RW) recorder; and obviously if I try to record a normal CD or/and a normal DVD the program (Nero) tells me that it cannot support this kind of disc.
Ha! The driver cannot even read the music cd and cd-rom.

I'll be glad to receive whatever kind of suggestions and hints.
Thank you in advance.

Regards
Max

Hello, the problem is from the cd you inserted into the dvd rom, so it mean nothing is wrong with your DVD ROM. I think what you can do to make the DVD or CD work some how, is to use a dusting powder to clean it and try again. But thier is nothing wrong with your DVD ROM. Please vote me.

I have burnt 3 dvd's/cd and nothing on them. they are empty.; it doesn't read other dvd's either; i already tried to burn with 2 applications.

Hello Michael,

Either your burner is having issues (contact Asus support) or the option for a "test" burn is enabled in the burning software that you are using. Also make sure that you are using DVDs / DVD Media that is compatible with your burner (DVD+R, DVD-R, DVD+RW, DVD-RW, etc).

Hello,

the laser (lens) of the Rom is very weak, that's why it cannot read DVD discs. DVD discs are usually larger that CD's and it takes an active lens to play DVD disc.

So if its still under warranty, you can return it, if not, get a lens cleaner and use it to clean the lens of your ROM.

Good luck.

Take a look at this registry key - you might have a different GUI id after Volume

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\CD Burning\Drives\Volume{1365b506-f359-11dc-ac07-806d6172696f}

There should be a REG_DWORD called DRIVE TYPE
The values should be 1 for a CD-R and 2 for CD-RW

To verify - Go to My Computer and Right click the CD/DVD drive and then Properties.

You should now have a RECORDING tab and be able to burn CDs and DVDs

You need to re-boot for 3rd party software such as Roxia etc to now see the drive
