Hi,

Here is the you tube website which has a 4 part video on using the
White serger 1600 machine: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kF5ilPxR4Q

I also have a website with instructions threading this machine: http://www.ehow.com/info_8107633_instructions-thread-white-speedylock-serger.html

At the ehow site, you can search for all kinds of information in case you need more than learning how to thread and adjust the stitching. Happy sewing!

I hope this helps. If it does, I'd appreciate you vote. Thanks,

Handie Andie

What is the difference between a sewing machine and a serger?

Well..... A serger (or overlock) sews a different, and usually more complex stitch. Where a sewing machine usually only uses two threads to make the stitch, a serger can use two, three, four or even five threads and will sew around the edges of the work piece, as well as trimming the edge of the work just ahead of the sewing area, or as you feed the work in, the trimming takes place first. Sergers also make a stronger seam, attributable to more thread / stitching in the seam. Sergers are versatile and quick, but one drawback is the fact that sergers make a chain stitch instead of a lock stitch, like a machine with a bobbin, and lock stitches can be pulled out, like the stitching that used to close dog food bags and bags of charcoal. A lock stitch is just what it sounds like, it can't be pulled out. You only get a lock stitch with a machine that uses a bobbin, and sergers don't use bobbins. That fact makes serging desirable for the speed of production. Changing bobbins takes up a lot of time, even if you are using pre-wounds. Hope this helps!

My Babylock Serger Eclipse was bought around 1994 and had a looper threading tool wire to thread it when I could not get it to thread manually. I lost the tool and can't get the thread to blow through....

Try one of the Serger looper threading tools listed on this Amazon.com page: http://www.amazon.com/Serger-Looper-and-Needle-Threader/dp/B000Q30C3G/ref=pd_sbs_ac_1 .

These are third party tools. See the main item and the section "Customers who viewed this item also viewed" for other manufacturer's looper threading tools.

I hope this helps.

My overlocker is jammed with the needles in the down position - I have not used it for a while and hve just oiled and cleaned it.

Oh man.

Not sure how to get it unjammed but I know that if overlockers/sergers aren't threaded properly they can jam up like that. The last time that happened to me... broken looper.

Open up the front and start clipping threads... Gently rock the hand wheel to see if it loosens as you get thread released.

Honestly I suspect that your machine has locked up because it's been knocked out of time. If you still have problems take it in and have it serviced.

I can't understand how to thread lower looper (red) The instructions on the cover are very unclear

Sounds like you are trying to thread a serger or overlock. I would be helpful if you offered up the model number. However, a few things I've learned.

Sergers MUST be threaded in ORDER. Failure to do so will break your looper (had it happen)

In other words if you break one of the 4 or 5 threads... you have to un-thread all the other points and begin with Thread 1, then do thread 2, etc., etc.,

If you would give me the Make and model number of your serger... I will be happy to see if I can find your manual and threading guide for you.

Janome 6600 sewing machine. bobbin thread is gumming up underneath on a swimsuit knit type material (4 layers). Brand new machine had 1 1/2 weeks. Sometimes material goes down into the bobbin area jammed...

Make sure you're using a polyester thread (I use maxilock serger thread) then a stretch needle, and hold the tails of your thread until you get started into the seam so the fabric cannot push down into the opening on the throat plate.

Also, a small zigzag stitch (about 1.8 - 2.0 wide) is good to use on lycra as that will allow the fabric to stretch after the garment is made.

This is stuff I've used with my 6500P and other previous Janome machines in making Ice Skating outfits.
