Question about PC Desktops

5 Answers

I have tried to repair windows 2000 professional on my desktop (Dell Optiplex GX150). I misplaced the original W2000 cd that came with the computer. I tried to repair using a new W2000 pro that I bought. Unfortunately it cannot repair the following files NTDETECT.COm, ntldr, arcsetup.exe, arcldr.exe. I have lots of data in my drive and do not want a full installtion. Please help, Thanks Alex

    Hi Gingo

? To set up Windows 2000 on the selected item, press ENTER
? To create a partition in the unpartitioned space, press C
? To delete the selected partition, press D

    The options:

C: NTFS (Local Disk) 9223MB (2671 MB Free)

Which of the above must I select.

    Many thanks

Dear Sir/Madam,

http://www.blackviper.com/Articles/OS/Install2kPro/install2kpro1.htm

This is the link how to install the Windows 2000 professional.check out. But u already try to repair windows, it cannot repair means it is very difficult to recover the data from C: drive. Above the link is to fresh install the windows 2000 professional on same drive (c:), so u cannot recover the C:/ drive files. so please ask customer support for help to recover the c: drive, if you have original Windows 2000 professional Operating system means they definitely help you.

Thanks
Good luck

Your best solution would be to connect your hard drive to another computer as the secondary drive, back up your data to that other computer so that you don't lose it. Then reinstall Windows by first deleting the partition with the "To delete the selected partition, press D" option. You will then need to reinstall any missing drivers from Dell's website and your applications. You can then transfer your data back from the other computer by either using a network, USB flash (thumb) drive, or CDs/DVDs.

If you are still using a GX150 there is a good chance your hard drive has died since the power supply fans seize up and the hard drive overheats. So you may want to think about replacing the hard drive and power supply.

When installing to a Parallel install, also use a different USER NAME that the original.

When trying to access files in the original install, you may have to take ownership of these files

When is like that you just install windows on a different folder without formatting the hard drive.Install windows in a folder that you will call windows.01 all your data will stay on the disk in the user folder, providing that you do not format HD.
You will need to reinstall drivers and software.

You can do a full installation, just make sure you set it so it leaves the filesystem intact (no format) so the windows will get reinstalled but all your files are still stored in the computer. I have done that many times on my own computer.

it asks you this when you are selecting the parition to install after this the setup asks you to format with ntfs or fat32 Quick or fast, the last option is to leave filesystem as is.

If it asks to delete the existing windows you can select diffrent folder or delete, it doesn't actually delete your files but if you want to be safe, select diffrent folder, Win for example.

Thats Quick or slow, select the last option. no changes.

I have a Dell Optiplex GX1 desktop. I have been unable to start Windows and receive the error message: Windows root system32/ntoskrnl.450L exe failure. How do I correct this problem?

You will have to boot in to repair console from XP cd and run it so it can try to repair the Operating system. Put in cd and restart and if it does not ask to boot to cd u have to change boot order in bios to boot to CD rom first. If all this fails you have to reinstall windows. Hope this helps.

Dell optiplex gx150 cd drive won't boot

Hmmm--when you went into the BIOS setup, your first boot device should be CD. The next your hard drive. The other boot devices should be set to disabled. Now if you have a third boot device as a network device, then your computer is not seeing the CD or the Hard drive--you have a problem. If all the drives are hooked up properly (sounds like you have that covered) then your motherboard is probably the problem.
I would try to disconnect all your stuff except the CD. Try it on the first IDE channel (set it either as cable select or master). If that fails, try it on the other channel. Do you have a second CD to swap out?
Still no boot? Bad motherboard.

Contact Dell technical support to get the CD read the partition on your hard drive to restore to factory settings. It won't be able to work without one since it has to boot from the CD in order to get it to work.

I have experienced this problem as well, it is either the CD is scratch or the CD-rom lens needs cleaning, however it can read the content of the CD, I would susgest you try a another CD-rom , borrow it from a friend. It works for me.

Dell optiplex gx-260 slow performace

If this is happening on all workstations you should look at your network settings and verify that your DNS settings are correct.  Also look in the error logs on the server to see if it is fillingup with system or application errors.
