Open Question

I have a Sta-Rite heater, model #SR333LP the heater shows an error message EO1 and will not run. The factory technician I spoke to advised me that I need a temperature sensor. What is the part number for the temperature sensor and is it difficult to install. Thank you.

sounds like it is not getting enough water flow. Check to see that there is water going out of the heater. Here is a site you can check trouble shooting guide.

SOURCE: sta rite 400na gives error code 05 after about 30 seconds

I am not sure if you have received an answer to the issue, or not, but just in case! An EO5 error code is an open stack flue sensor, or switch, There are two forms of the stack flue sensor, so you will need to know which one you have on the heater.

What this error code means is that the sensor "read" the flue temp to be over 500 degrees. Usually, it is just gone bad and reading the wrong temp.

Between the two water pipes on the left side of the manifold is a two inch plug. When you take this plug out the thermal regulator assembly will come with it.It consists of "O" rings, a spring and what looks like a thermostat in a car. This is the probal bad part although it could be the spring also. You can get these parts seperatly or in a kit. If this is an older heater the kit is the way to go so you get all the nessary "O" rings and you will be covered on everything you need.

SOURCE: sta-rite spa heater records wrong temperature

The problem most likely. Is that the temp sensor in the heater is faulty. The temperature sensor is located on the in/out water connection header on side of heater. More information is needed to be 100% sure. But, due to the complexity of those heaters it is recommended that you find a qualified service company to diagnose and repair the heater. Not recommended to repair yourself.

The age and over all condition of the heater would help. Try removing the Thermal Reg and see if it smooths out. If the heater responds, replace the Thermal Reg with a new one.

The EO1 signal comes on the heater

EO1 is a signal for low voltage. Your heater will run on 110v or 220v and you need to check your voltage comming into the heater and the wireing to the unit. Then check to be sure the heater is wired to that voltage. I hope this helps.

Sta-rite pool heater SR333LP

This heater has a thermal regulator and a high limit that could be the problems. If it were a high limit that was bad, the display would show the error when the heater goes off. In the absence of an error, one would look to the regulator. A bad regulator would cause the water flow to bypass the exchanger and cause a slow heat. The part is easily replaced and runs about $90. It sort of looks like a car thermostat and also has a spring. It is accessed by removing the large black plug near the plumbing inlet/outlet.
