Question about Whirlpool Refrigerators

Open Question

I have a Whirlpool refrigerator Model: ET18HPXHW0 0 Ser. EK0425816 Type: C18TFA00 My problem: I have had a lot of water pooling in the bottom of my fridge and on shelves - big mess! I located the problem - water is dripping from an opening in the top of the fridge which I am assuming is coming from the freezer. This has been happening for quite some time now and I am collecting a glass full of water of few days or so. Could you please tell me what the problem may be and how I myself can fix it? Thank-you for your time. Sincerely, Erin Breckon

SOURCE: Water collecting in refrigerator and ice collecting in freezer

sounds like you have a clogged defrost drain tube. removing back panel of freezer will give you access to drain trough, melt away the ice with a hair dryer, youll find a drain hole under there somewhere, pouring boiling water down the drain will clear it pretty quickly( i use a steam machine purchased from the infomercials works awesome, after you clear it and all water drain down tube wrap a piece of solid copper wire around the heater( black heater right above the drain trough) and stick it in the whole maybe an inch or so. now every time the heater comes on to defrost it will prevent the hole from freezing over

SOURCE: Whirlpool has water drip inside fridge

sounds like a drain clog in the freezer compartment above. remove the freezer rear panel and totally defrost the evaporator area, directly under the evap you see( under all taht ice) a small drain hole that has become frozen over, try defrosting with either a hair dryer( not a heat gun too much heat youl melt everything) or by pouring hot water donw the drain until you get a free flow of water down the tube. after its clear reassemble and you should be fine

SOURCE: Water on btm of glass shelves and water in bottom of frig

sounds like you have a gap in the door seal, which results in condensation forming inside unit. Use a blow dryer to heat the seal around the door and ensure that the fit is tight.

SOURCE: Water dripping into refrigerator from freezer

DRAIN TROUGH IS PLUGGED OR FROZEN. EMPTY FREEZER AND REMOVE LOWER TRAY TO SEE A HOLE ALL THE WAY IN THE BACK USUALLY IN THE CENTER. CHECK TO SEE IF WATER CAN DRAIN THROUGH BY POURING A CUP OF IT INTO HOLE. IF IT IS FROZEN POUR HOT WATER UNTIL IT THAWS, IF PLUGGED REMOVE THE OBJECT.

Whirlpool refrigerator is leaking water

If the water is pooling around the bottom of the fridge I would pull the fridge out and pull the panel of the back of the fridge and check to make sure the black plastic drain pan is in place and the white or clear plastic hose coming from the bottom of the fridge is aimed at the drain pan, if they are not then that would be why you have water pooling up under the fridge. Generally the Walter gos into the drain pan after defrost and the heat from the discharge lie of the compresser evaporates the water and it should never overflow. Hope this helps

Below that panel in the freezer (evaporator cover) is the drain trough. Most likely it is clogged.
Using a baster, with hot water and bleach mixed deluge till it flows down to the drain pan underneath.

Water pools under the veggie crisper

yoor problem is with the drain, when your refrig goes into self defrost the water melted from the defrost needs some where to go. There is a drain for this purpose....it is normally a tube that leads from the rear of freezer to pan by compressor. when this gets blocked the water has nowhere to go except into the freezer vent and down the bottom of the refridge compartment. you will need to clear the blockage in the drain tube...if you are still haveing a problem i can tell you how.

Water pooling into bottom of refrigerator.

Empty the machine and let it dry out, it sounds as if the Styrofoam between the freezer and refrigerator is breaking down and holding a lot of condensation. Is this an older machine? If the problem reoccurs, there is nothing you can do to mitigate it.
