Ok most liklely that when the operating system was reinstalled a sound driver for the on board sound card was not installed. Go to your control panel and check for yellow "?" most likely will find one next to sound device.
If so you......
1.) find out whos sound chip you have
2.) google search "your sound chip number" windows "your version of operating software"
3.) download then select reinstall driver from the yellow "?"
4.) reboot ...... should work.....:-)

I don't have any audio output device installed

You need the sound driver I assume for this laptop. If it doesnt match hardware perfectly then nothing will work.

Go to vendors site with your S/N and Model number to locate the exact sound driver.

Have you checked in control panel / sound speech / sounds & audio devices / click on "sounds" blind and see if any of the sounds can be activated by clicking the big black arrow. If greyed out then the driver is not installed.

I recently bought a Windows 7 64 bit PC. I have Optiquest monitor with built-in speakers. The sound was working fine and then it stoppped. I tried stand-alone speakers, then anoither monitor with speakers-...

Go into control panel / sounds / sounds and audio / select audio blind / should see a driver listed in each device. Back to sounds blind /test sound, if you can see the black arrow but its greyed out then driver is faulty. If you can click on it and it changes baxk to th esquare all is OK, ensure the sound jack is plugged into the GREEN ones at rear PC. Also check in volume blind that speakers are selected.

Go into sound properties in "Control panel" and click on "sounds and audio devices" or similar.
Click on "audio" and make sure all boxes are normal not greyed out. If greyed out you need to re-install driver. If all there, check volume control is set correctly.

SOUND PROBLEM

Hi,
If you go to...
Start, control panel, system, device manager, sounds, video and audio tab, click it, underneath it will appear another tab, double click this, ( a grey dialog box appears ) now into the second tab drivers tab,
Now try to roll back the old driver, if it is not greyed out.
or, update the driver,
This will search the internet for the driver for you. takes 5 mins.
You should be good then.

Regards
Richard.

Sound

Did you have sound before?
If yes then follow this for xp:
Start/control panel/Sounds, Speech, & Audio Devices/Sound & Audio Devices. Is page greyed out? If yes then most likely its your sound card or on board sound, or your missing drivers.
If not greyed out go to "Sounds" tab, click on any "Program events" sound under Windows then click little black arrow next to browse on bottom right . Sound? If the arrow is greyed out then its the same; audio hardware device or audio driver.
If there is still no sound click on "Hardware" tab and first Sound, video and game controller then "properties". This will tell you under "Device status" if this device is working properly. Do this for each Sound, video ect.... selection in the list. I have found there are usually 6 listings. If not then you are most likely missing a sound driver.

did you check that your pc is having sound drivers installed or not
or they are working good or currupted

here is how you can find out
go to my computer right clik it
select property
go to hardware
select device manager
here in new window you can see all installed devices
find out "sound, video and game controller"
now click + mark on leftside of it
it will drop down the list of available sound/ video devices
if you dont see any sound device then you have to install sound drivers
if you see any sound device but with yellow with it then its installed but not working properly
in that case also you need to install drivers once again

find this out
