Hi and welcome to FixYa, I am Kelly

When you reach in the bottom of the unit with the bread pan installed is there resistance felt as you move the kneading paddle in either direction? Yes = Motor problem No = belt or kneading paddle problem. (Since this a twin paddle machine they both must move at the same time)

The belt can be found here: PN: 8-BBV-P540

The paddle can be found here: PN: 8-BBV-P290

Won't knead dough

Chances are that your drive belt is broken. With the pan and paddle removed from the oven and your machine unplugged turn it on its side so the bottom is facing you. Hopefully it has one of the removable metal panels on the bottom. If it does, remove that panel using a screwdriver. When the panel is off see if the drive belt that runs between the 2 pulley wheels is broken. If it is broken remove the old belt and look for a number on the side of the belt that looks something like this STS 60 S3M471 I sell replacement belts for bread machines. Contact me through my website breadmachineshelp.com if you are interested in replacing your drive belt. Thanks, Daryl

In west bend do you have to use the dough cycle first

Dough cycle is for just mixing and kneading the dough. Like if you want to make pizza or buns. It will only mix the ingredients, cycle for a while to knead, then it's finished. It won't bake form there. Any other cycle will make the bread.

The machine won't start although the light is on.

Black and Decker machines go through a slow warmup before they start kneading. That is normal. It takes a few minutes. If your machine hasn't started kneading within 30 mins. then you DO have a problem with it.

Bread maker won't mix, it just clicks. I removed two screws on the bottom to see if the belt had slipped off. it was fine so I called Cuisinart to see if they could help. They said removing even one...

Some bread machines warm up before the kneading process begins especially on whole wheat cycles. If your machine hasn't started kneading after about 1/2 hour then you do have a problem but, give it time before you give up on it....

Swan SB1020 Bread Maker, how do you fit the kneading arm on the axle.

I take it from your post that you're have a bit of trouble attaching the two kneading arms to the two drive axles. That happens sometimes. The quality control for kneading arms is somewhat lacking and as such the holes somtimes have areas that need to be shaved down a bit more before they can slide down onto the axles all the way. In your perticular case and for your perticular model I suggest you rotate the arms upside down then push them down into the axles. Of course they won't go down all they way but this step will help open up the two lock notches cast into the tops of the arms. Once that is done, remove the arms, rotate them to their normal positions, then press them down onto the axles all the way to the bottom of the bread pan.

Hope this helps!
