Most times this happens is because the player has gone bad.
Sounds like you'll need to get a new one (assuming you've tried a number of CD's and DVD's)

I can burn to this disc a video from my computer and it plays back fine on computer from the disc but not in DVD player. Do I need a different type disc?

If the disc was written by your computer it would, obviously be able to read it. It may be that your pc dvd recorder takes dvd r+ discs but your dvd player reads only dvd r- discs. Google the make and model of your dvd player make and model with the word specification, or if you have the original instructions that came with it, look there for the formats it can read and obtain some of those. It is fairly straight forward really. You identified the problem correctly.

Imported videos onto computer, burnt DVD, will not read on Panasonic DVDS player, does it need finalising if so how.?

Depends how old or what model your DVD player is ? When I burn DVD's with my video editing software on my computer, some disks will not play on certain older DVD players, has something to do with video codes that the DVD player has to read? My experience is that my older DVD players will not play burnt DVD's from my computer, but will play in newer DVD players ?

What could be the problem if a dvd won't play on my dvd player.

For a start, try to read the DVD on a computer. Press on CD/DVD on right button's contextual menu for exlpore. If the computer can open and list the DVD, try to play it with VLC player.
If you have problem reading the DVD disk, it's it. If you can read, it's your player

It's not reading cd, or DVD

Check for scratches on the disk surface - these can inhibit the player from reading a disk correctly.

Some players will read olny certain type(s) of disks. This is an issue mostly for disks created on a computer, not those that are prerecorded and available for purchase or rental that contain movies and music.

As stated above, dIsks created on a home computer may not always be readable on a home player. Re-writeable and recordable types that are not listed as being compatible will not work. Check your manual to see which types are acceptable and not. DVD types are: DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW and DVD-RAM CD Types are CD-R, CD+R and CR-RW. Older home CD and DVD players generally work with "-R" types and the newer players with both "-R" & "+R" types. "-RW" and "-RAM" types are the least likely to be readable in home players.

Additionally, most players require that disks created on a home computer be "finalized". This is an extra step that isn't required by most CD / DVD drives in computers. Just because it works in your computer doesn't mean it will work in your home player. If you're using compatible media and still not able to read disks, check your CD / DVD recording software options to enable finalization.

Good luck!

When i burn a disk on dvd,it will not play on my dvd player?

Some DVD-players only read 'DVD-R' disks.
Some DVD-players only read 'DVD+R' disks.

Be sure that the "blank" disks you are using are compatible with your DVD-player.

DVD player cant read DVD media

.Vob files contain audio, video and subtitles all together. However, most MPEG-2-capable DVD players don't support subtitle tracks. I guess your DVD player is in the mentioned majority. That's why you can only play them in your computer drive.
