You need to install the sound driver. www.hp.com should have an xp driver around.

You can download older drivers from ftp.download.packardbell.com

It sounds like it will not repair. Run CHKDSK/F before you do anything else as if the hard drive is faulty you will have to place your system disk in your drive and choose "replace system" when the menu gets there, let it format your drive and install a fresh system. When it has finished, download the latest drivers from the manufacturers web sight, if Microsoft can't do it and then restore you data from your backup disks.

try using windows 2000 operating system. It should find the driver for you or even windows xp and go to www.microsoft.com and do all the updates.

The allowed resolution does not depend on the Operative windows used (XP,Vista, etc.) , but on the video adapter installed on the computer and on the video card driver.

If resolution 1360 x 768 was supported before on the SAME computer with a different system, then you may need to re-install the video card driver.

If resolution 1360 x 768 was not present before on same computer, then the display adapter installed on this computer may not support 1360 x 768.
Check specifications on Google, download updated display drivers, and if nothing works, then buy and fit inside the computer display adapter supporting 1360 x 768, like the one here: e-GeForce 7200 GS TC 128 MB PCI-e Graphics Card

No restore patition on the Acer. The download is the same in any computer, desktop or latop. Install XP and download the drivers from Acer, that simple.
