Question about HP OmniBook XE3 Notebook

1 Answer

I need instructions on how to replace the display (the whole top half) of my HP Omnibook XE3. My outer case has cracks, and the display quit lighting up twice - fixed both times by adjusting something through the hole in the right corner nearest the keyboard (bottom?). However, this fix won't last, so I bought a replacement and need to know how to put it on. Thank you.

I am the person who asked the above question and would like to add that when the display works, it works perfectly - I am using the computer now. But the outer case has bad cracks and even the hole I mentioned, from 10 years of daily use. The failure to light up is probably a result of the cracks or that hole, so I bought a whole new top half for the computer; I once replaced the keyboard of this same computer and can probably replace the top half myself if I can find out how. Thank you.

Dim display on laptop LCD screen

The part you need is called a CCFL Backlight. Basically, there are lights in the screen that back-light/illuminate the display. Over time it burns out and you are left with a dim and completely dull display. These are a pain to replace and expensive when bought from the manufacturer. But this site has a break down with dis-assembly instructions...if you want to try it.
