Always start with flat setting. Be careful of boosting highs as feedback may be a problem Put the speakers forward so mics can't "hear" them.

Eq for male vocal mic on mackie 1604 vlz3

There is no easy answer to this. It will depend on the mic, the speakers and the singer and genre amongst many other things. It will also probably be room dependent too although the overall eq should be able to take this out of the equation to a large extent.
Your best bet is to get someone to sweep the frequency on the mid range with a bit of positive and then a bit of negative eq to find where most affects your vocals then fine tune to your liking. Are you using a bit of reverb/chorus/echo as his can often, when used sparingly, enhance even a good singer. The biggest difference you'll probably find is from using different mics. The ubiquitous SM58 does not suit everyone but is robust, warm and forgiving but if you're after a more pure sound there are many more accurate mics you can try.

When setting up xr8600 is it best to start mains and monitors master at 0DB?

1. Turn the main and monitor volumes all the way down (off). Plug a cd player into channel 9/10 and play a track of music of your liking. With the main/monitor volumes still off, adjust the gain on 9/10 until the clip light turns on, then back it down until the clip light just turns off. Put the channel volume at 12 o' clock.
2. With the music still playing, turn up the mains to the desired listening level first, and then adjust the graphic eq until the music sounds good in the room. Remember or mark the position of the volume control. Do not use the channel eq on 9/10 for music that has been mastered properly, leave the eq flat. Once this step is completed then you have now set the main eq.
3. Repeat the same for monitors. Turn off the main volume and then bring up the monitor main volume to the desired level first, then set eq. Now your monitor eq is set properly. Remember or mark the position of the monitor volume.
4. Set up microphone - plug a mic into channel 1 with volume all the way down. Speak or sing into the microphone and adjust the GAIN until you see the clip light, then back down a litttle on the gain. Put the monitor and main volumes back up to the mark from step 2. Now adjust the volume and monitor send on the mic channel to the desired loudness first before adjusting the mic channel eq. Use subtractive eq method to minimize distortion and feedback. ...i.e. if the mic is bassy then turn down the lows, do not ADD highs. If the mic needs bass, turn down the highs.

Excessive feedback

On mic? On guitar? Take top frequencies off EQ, point mic away from speakers. Use decent dynamic mic or feedback resistant condenser such as Sennheiser e865. Try Behringer feedback shark

Problem is after a few minutes i lose all sond comming from my speakers

Not likely a grounding problem. Run a test: Turn on unit with NO sound into the mics and wait 5 minutes... now try the mics. If they start working for a few minutes, then the amp is being overdriven. These small systems can be overheated and a thermal protector shuts them down to protect them. A hidden problem is if the mics are in front of the speakers you MIGHT have ultrasonic (above hearing range) feedback that may be overheating the unit. Put your speakers nearer the audience and mics behind. If problem persists, exercise your warranty.

We have a PMP4000 running multiple mics and instruments in a small church space. We are not getting very much volume and the sound is very fuzzy. Any recommendations?

You have NOT told us what speakers you are using or anything to help us help you. That mixer will produce about 250 watts a side into 8 ohm speakers. That should fill a 30 by 50 foot area. You will need at least 15 inch speakers. Proper mixer setup is important. Look at videos on the subject on YouTube for instructions. Many people use too much high frequency EQ setting. Set the EQ flat to start. Use minimum of reverb to start. Use good quality mics with XLR to XLR cables... none of this Radio Shack or Karaoke quality. Minimum mic cost iis around $90 for decent ones... or about $70 when bought in lots of three or more. For your speakers make sure they are elevated on speaker stands. Use the PFL to solo each channel and set the TRIM level for each as the first step.

No problem. just bought it and a pair of thump 15s what cables are best. and we want to play our accoustic gigs through this and dont know how to set eq i know its different each room but a starting point.

Use balanced lines for the audio interconnects. Use XLR low noise mic cables or TRS type cables. IMPORTANT: Power the speakers and the mixer from the SAME receptacle, even if it means running extension cords. Ground bounce in building wiring can destroy the circuits in the equipment.

I have 1604-Vlz3, M-audio Delta 1010LT With Cubase 5 . There is a main problem when it's normal with an apm it's no problem no sound problem but when the direct out is working with the sound card the...

You MAY be overdriving the sound card. Near flat should work for vocal, but setting the levels throughout the mixer is important as well as the sound card. You can use the LOW CUT to reduce hum if you have noisy system. Describing balancing the levels is more than I can do here. There are many good videos about mixer setup on YouTube.com. You cannot "fix" problems created by improper levels and noise injected into the system using the EQ.
What is important is to see that all gain controls and faders are around mid range to 70% when operating normally. You should be using BALANCED lines everywhere possible either XLR or TRS cables. ALL interconnected equipment should be powered from the same receptacle or power source INCLUDING all amps and powered speakers. Often users use unbalanced lines from mixers to sound boards and pick up noise or they have the levels set wrong between the mixer and sound board resulting in clipping and distortion or poor signal-to-noise ratio.
