This is an common problem people have when they reinstall Windows, but it's easily fixed. You don't have the drivers to use the sound card.

If you have a CD that came with your laptop when you got it that is labeled something like "Drivers and Utilities", get that out and run it, you can install the drivers from there. If you don't you can download them online.

I can't find the drivers for you since you didn't post your laptop model, but you can easily find them by searching for them on your manufacturer's website (for example, I have a Dell so I would go to Dell.com and search for my laptop's model), as they usually have the drivers listed there. If you can't find them on your manufacturer's website, then just try a quick search on a search engine like Google that says (laptop model) (driver type).
For example, if I was searching for a sound driver for my laptop, I would type Dell Inspiron 1420 sound driver. This should provide all the drivers you need. If you are having other problems after reinstalling, such as not being able to connect to wireless networks, those can be usually fixed by drivers, too.

Lost sound

Hi, I not an expert here but I willing share my advice...
1st thing 1st, check the driver of the sound adapter whether it is install accordingly... cause sometime driver might be the problem...
2nd, run diagnosis... run command dxdiag in run box from the start button... check if diagnosis is success or failed...
3rd, if you have sound card(USB or slot) try use it, to check whether your built-in sound(from m/board) might(could be) has malfunction...
I hope this help you to solve it...

I have installed windows XP pro sp3. My processor is Intel Celeron 430 1.8GHz. Sound Driver is not working.

After installing Windows XP and SP3 the audio driver needs to be installed.
If the audio card is built-in on the motherboard, then you can download the audio driver from the motherboard manufacturer's WEB site.
If the audio card is installed in an expansion slot, the the audio driver can be downloaded fron the sound card manufacturer's WEB site.

you can get the driver from the manufacturer website. If the PC is custom build, get the motherboard name and download driver from them. if your board is not integrated (built in on the board) find the name of the card model, googled it and download from the internet

I need a sound device for my newly formated pc; Its Microsoft windows XP Professional & im from Philippines...

If you are planning to get a sound device hardware like a PCI card you can choose CMI8738 audio PCI Audio Device may suffice your needs.

If built in on your motherboard use your motherboard installer or manually go to sound device folder to install the driver.

If you don't have the motherboard installer, try its manufacturer's site then choose the exact model number and version, to get the right driver.

Intel d865perl sound card drivers

Hi,
left click this link & choose you're operating system for the Intel D865PERL motherboard drivers. (Reinstall the driver software).
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=949&lang=eng
For windows XP/home & pro. Click on this link;
http://downloadcenter.intel.com/filter_results.aspx?strTypes=all&ProductID=949&OSFullName=Windows*+XP+Home+Edition&lang=eng&strOSs=45&submit=Go%21
After reinstalling the software & you're sound does not seem better than the built in sound chip may be going bad.
Other factors can also cause the effects you are having. Run windows system defrag. Also run windows Disk cleanup. These tools are found in windows System tools. Lastly you can buy & add a PCI sound card into an emty PCI slot to bypass the built in sound card. If you choose to do this you will need to enter the bios & disable the built in sound device.

Good Luck!
