Question about Microwave Ovens

1 Answer

I've had the icemaker for three years-Use it mostly for special occasions 6-10 times per year. I has worked fine untill I added a remote filter about 20 feet away in the basement. The thickness of the ice is now about 1/3rd what it was....Plumbed it with 1/2" CPVC, the filter is cartridge type with 3/4 in and out bushed down to 1/2. HELP

Adding the filter has had 2 effects:
1 - the water pressure has been decreased. If your unit has an automatic water supply it needs to be readjusted to take in consideration the new water pressure.
2 - the hardness of the water has been dramatically reduced - this has reduced the effectiveness of the coalescents (the components in the mixture that glues together all the other components). You need to modify the mixture to take that into consideration - you will need to add more of coalescents like egg yoke or lecithin.

In some icemakers the mixture must be prepared by you, from separate components - add more coalescent - in others the mixture comes already made (you just add water) so just add more of it. In the end it depends on the exact model of your machine and how you use it. The simple difference in diameters on the pipes at the filter case is enough to cause a sharp drop in water pressure.

Sounds like a bad switch should have three primary, secondary, and monitor switch after 5 years change all 3 they are not the same primary and secondary are NO ( normally open ) and the monitor NC ( normally closed ) unit will not come on the fuse on the filter board is blow this usually shorts out the filter board change the switches first and replace fuse may not have to replace filter board hopes this helps.

Microwave won't heat for first minute - starts working normally after that.

The magnetron may be defective. You can replace the magnetron, there is no other possibility.

I have a JVM1850 that was installed 4 years ago. The unit was working fine, then a day ago I received an error display requesting a charcoal filet replacement. No filter is needed since it is vented...

I have a JVM1850 White microwave-over the oven-installed 3 years ago. Last evening the unit would not turn off. The inside light and fan continued to run, however, the microwave was not working.

All the controls and functions seem to operate, but when completed, the unit remained working, as stated above, with the door opened or closed.

Here we go, I have a GE side by side about 6 years old... Started with the icemaker not dispensing ice consistently... then the ice stopped all together (even though the bin was full and not froze solid)....

The clicking you are hearing is the relay unit. Now it is for sure that the compressor is not working as the relay keep s tripping off.
So first of all to clear this doubt, let us checck the relay unit which is clicking. remove and check. most of the time the relays need to be replaced as a poor contact will not deliver good voltage to the compressor and it will shut off. So check this out.
One the compressor works and you notice there is cooling the sytem seems ok except that you must check if the thermostat, the auto defrost cut off timer works.
If after the compressor works the cooling is not good then you can decide on a replacement than to spend for expensive repairs

GE microwave won't turn off

Just checked the GE website. Had the same problem with my 5 year old microwave. GE website says to close and open the door quickly three times. First time I did this it didn't work. Second time I closed the door with some significant force and reopened it more quickly. Worked. Unplugged the microwave, plugged it back in, still fine.

the door protection circuit needs attention, the door catches operate microswitches, but there is also a third which is a crowbar microswitch. if all three do not operate in the correct sequence then the safety switch or fuse will go.

The microwave was cooking, a few seconds later it ceased working

If it's not making a strong buzzing sound or anything out of the ordinary, it's probably the Magnatron. Most of the time that's what I find. It's the "antenna" that creates the microwaves. Some ovens carry a 5 year warranty on that part so I would check your manual. They are very easy to replace most of the time. They usually run about $100-$150.00

Ge spacemaker runs but wont heat

Hi, there are three issues that will cause a no heat situation in a microwave. these issue are a failed Magnetron, busted cut-off fuse and, failed diode.

I recommend checking all these area that are located inside the microwave for faults.

The most common issue will be a failed Magnetron.

The diode and, fuse will be located on the noise filter assembly.
