Anything can be fixed but at this point the cost of repair would exceed the value of a new camera. If this camera were in Canada the shipping and repair estimate would cost you $100.00 Canadian.

Add the cost of repair less the estimate and you most probably are looking at about $160.00 Canadian.

Short answer most often after a drop like this and the lens gets stuck it's not worth fixing them.

The D90, is a very good camera. I even know some professionals who do have one or more, to work with or have it as a backup for a bigger Nikon, because it will work with almost every Nikon lens. That means, it also works with the older AF lenses, that were made for analog (film) cameras.
To start, put the main dial on the top left, to the green camera (auto) logo or the one with the line through the flash logo, next to it. In both cases the camera works automatic , with a little difference. In auto it will pop up the speed light when there is little light, in the other it will raise the ISO and will not use the flash. without flash, if there is not enough light, the camera just won't make a picture.
when you are in one of the automatic settings, see in the view finder, where the camera will focus while you press the shutter half. It will place one ore more squares on one or several parts of your frame, where the camera "thinks" it should focus on. It this or these parts are the points you like to be in focus, then press the button full.

this should give better pictures. If it works, let me know.

Shutters on the lens won't fully open

Stuck automatic lens covers are fairly. But usually it's very easy to fix, without even opening the camera. See this link for troubleshooting steps for this problem.

Shutter stuck open after a tree limb struck it

Hello. Sadly this is a very common usually fatal problem. With little to loose try firmly smacking the bottom corner of the camera below the lens in the palm of your hand while powering up. Don't hit the lens itself. Also Dropping it on its back from 2 or 3 feet onto thick carpet while powering up may work. Lens replacement often costs nearly as much as a new camera these days.

Lens cover only opens half-way

If the lens barrel isn't fully extending on power up, that will prevent the lens cover shutters from springing open. There is a stationary prong that pushes the cover closed when the barrel is retracted.

Does the camera work otherwise? Take pictures thru the half open lens?

Do you really mean the shutter? Or do you mean the lens barrier? The lens barrier opens in front of the lens when you go to take a photo.

Assuming it is the lens barrier which is stuck open, the cause is usually dust/grit. A series of "puffs" with a large bulbed blower, e.g.a Giotto, should help clear it.

If it's been caused by liquid ("coke" is a favourite!) then the sugar is holding it open. A little (very little) ethyl alcohol dropped on the lens and allowed to percolate around the barrier area should sort it.

If it is the shutter you mean, then that is a workshop job.

Film doesn't develop

check your camer without film:

1). open the back, use different combinations of film speeds, shutter speeds and apartures. if you can see light coming in from the lens, no matter how little light and how fast.
2). check that film advances or not. if you camera detects film and loads automatically, insert any expired film cassette, or badly developed film and roll it back into cassette.
3). send it for service if either one or both gives you an answer of "N".
