SOURCE: ge top loader washer agitator does not work

To check the agitator. Start the washer into wash cycle. Once started Push down on top of agitator. If it catches some times or all of the time when pushing down, then then doggets are worn, under the agitator. You`ll have to remove the agitator to see these. If by pushing down on the agitator, nothing changes, Then you probably have a transmition problem. Check this and let me know what you find.

SOURCE: GE washer won't agitate

I had this same problem with our GE top load washer.  I just needed to pull harder.  (Note: The agitator is held in place by about a dozen L-shaped clips in a ring around the agitator's base that will release more as you pull harder on the agitator.)  Everything from the base below the large fins on up comes out together.  Grab the shaft above the fins and pull slowly and hard. I had to take the entire tub out, lay it on the porch, put my feet inside of it, and pull the agitator assembly out.  I wasn't able to pull it out while it was still in the washer.  BE CAREFUL! DON'T **** IT OUT; that might injure your back; just pull out slowly and as hard as you can without hurting yourself.  I was able to get it out successfully, but I am currently stuck at removing the bell below the agitator.  Good luck!

SOURCE: ge washer wont agitate and makes a humming noise

That means the motor has shorted out if it is not spinning. The brushes inside the motor may have overheated and stuck. You can try tapping on motor inside wash machine to see if it will free up.

SOURCE: GE washer GNSR2140A0WW wont spin/agitate but fills and drains

Hello, your problem is going to be with the lids switch, in this machine it is going to be a magnetic contact. You can confirm this my pulling the front panel off and accessing the wireing to the lids switch, If you have electrical knowledge bypass the lid switch using a wire nut and run the machine. If all is ok make sure you relpace the lid switch since it is there for a reason. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to comment again. Good Luck!!!

Slow agitator

Sometimes it is a very simple fix.
Agitator dogs.
4 little plastic thingies that wear out so the agitator has nothing to grip.
I'm not sure if they are specific to each model washer but it's about a $5.00 try.
You have to take the agitator out.
I watched YouTube.
Pretty easy and far less expensive than a pro!!
It took 10 mins. The hardest part was getting the agitator apart, which takes elbow grease!!
Good luck!

simply reach under the base of the whole agitator and pull upward,it may take some considerable pulling for it to release, then theres a 7/16" bolt to remove the agitator spline

Washer will do everything but spin out and agitate belt good can rotate with hand but on the belt will not spin on pulleys air coupler is good and threads are excellant any advice

Since spin and agitate are the two times the transmission is used, that is what I would look at that. The agitate is the slow cycle of the transmission and the spin is the high cycle. Can you physically view the belt, i.e. that you have things opened up?

I have a GE washer model # WHDRR418GWW. It is about 19 months old. It stopped agitating and spinning. It will fill with water and the timer/knob will go thru the cycles. But when it reaches the washing...

You have what is called "agitating dogs" there are usually 4 of them at the bottom of the agitator. They have small grippers which lock onto the agitator and agitates. If the washer is ever overfilled or over time filled to heavy this will wear down the nylon teeth on the "dogs". The top of the agitator will spin off, you will see a bolt inside at the bottom, remove bolt and the agitator will pull out. Google "agitating dogs on washer. It will give you pictures for a better understanding. If the belt was broken the washer would not drain, because the belt turns the pump. These dogs are about $5 and honestly easy to install. Good Luck.

I NEED TO TIGHTEN THE ADUTATER HOW DO I DO THAT MY WASHER WASHES FINE BUT THE THING THAT SPINS IN THE MIDDLE IS LOSE HOW DO I TIGHTEN IT

The fix to tighten up the agitator would be to replace the clutch dogs. They are very inexpensive. I have attached a link with a break down of the parts and part number.

Basically you pop the center of the agitator off and use a 7/16" socket to remove the agitator bolt. Lift the agitator and separate, replace the dogs and reassemble. You will notice a much better cleaning performance once this is done.

The clutch dogs are part 6 on this diagram and the part number is 80040, they should cost under $10.00
