SOURCE: 42" ceiling fan

1. Try to rotate it by free hand and see it is free machanically. If not, it ball-bearing/bush should require lubrication or replacement.(Note at this satage there should be no electric supply to fan.)
2.If it is free, rotate it fast by hand, then immediately switch it on.
a)If it continue to rotate, then there is fault in capacitor.Replace it.
b)If not, ask me.

Two days ago my hampton bay fan made 4 or 5 popping sounds, sparked and smoked for about 3 seconds. but works perfectly do i clean it, and carrry on or do i have to worry about it?

hi.

DO NOT USE THIS FAN. disconnect if possible.

any spark, smoke and popping noises from any electrical items MUST be treated as highly suspect and a possible fire risk, until professionally tested and given the all clear.

it may just be a few bits of dust burning off, but it MUST be checked before you can assume it is safe.
sparks and smoke with a little dust or grease can cause a fire.

i AM trying to frighten you into doing something rapidly, as this could be a serious fire risk, and must be considered dangerous until tested and proven to be safe.
i would not be doing my job responsibly if i did not make this point absolutely clear

Fan stopped Turning - Removed fan to check all the connections. All the connections were good. When you turn the fan on, you can hear a humming sound. If you take off the blades you can spin the motor and it will work, but will not turn on it's own.

I called Home Depot customer service. I had my receipt, so they gave me store credit for the full purchase. Since I have two fans, they wanted to know if I wanted to replace both fans. I told them one was still working fine, so I only replaced one. My problem was the transformer. You could see where it had overheated and melted.

Oil it. Oil might have leaked all winter. I think you should fix your leak.

Ceiling fan power

It sounds like the fan motor has blown out. Is this an old fan? The motors do burn out every 5-10 years, depending on the brand and quality of motor.
