Hi.

I quote the procedure from the 1997 2.5 Boxer (2.5i) engine manual. It is the gasoline engine installed in the 1997 legacy 2.5. The procedure clearly does not apply to the2.5TD engine, which is diesel:

Spark Plug Replacement Procedure for 2.5 Liter Engine

Removal
1. Remove battery, washer tank and air cleaner.
2. Remove high tension cords.
3. Cover ATF pipes and ABS pipes with cloth to prevent them from damage during replacement of spark plugs.
4. Remove spark plugs by using a general service tool with the special instruction described below.

Installation
1. Set the spark plug into the socket.
2. Tighten the spark plug in the cylinder head with the socket. It is necessary to support the end of the socket by a finger.
3. When the spark plug can be felt to be tightened with 2 or 3 rotations, remove the socket from the spark plug.

4. Confirm if the spark plug is screwed into the hole properly by touching it with a finger. If it is difficult to
touch it by finger, confirm its condition by using mirror and so on.
5. Reset the socket on the plug then tighten it with proper torque.
6. Install high tension cords.
7. Install battery, washer tank, and air cleaner

Notes:
1. Length L1 (100mm, 3.94") is most important for ease of removal and installation.
2. Wrap points A & B with tape to prevent them from separating during work.
3. An approximate 250mm long extension bar is recommended to be used between the ratchet and the universal joint.

Spark plugs for the 2.5 liter engine will be platinum tipped, NGK PFR5B-11. (Same maintenance schedule as the SVX.) 2.2 liter engines will use Champion RC10YC4.

Regards.

Ginko

Is a rear diff from a 1997 subaru legacy wagen with a 2.2l inter changeable with a 1997 subaru legacy outback with a 2.5l ?

the only way you can do this is if you can identify the gear ratios from both cars with the transmission codes found on the strut tower plate.
see this list to check for matches, read it carefully its a ton of info

Can you switch a rear diff from a 1997 subaru legacy wagen with a 2.2l inter changeable with a 1997 subaru legacy outback with a 2.5l ?

the biggest draw back that you will have to check first is the ratio of the diffs you want to change. If they are not the same but will fit then you will destroy the 3rd diff in the transmission from excessive use.

How do you replace the spark plug wires on 1997 Subaru outback/legacy?

Access from top is better but you must remove battery/washer reservoir driver's side and intake piping on passenger's side to get to the plugs. If you have bad back, access from underneath is fine but I'd have a ramp instead of jack for safety reasons.

Timing belt broke and need timing marks diagram 2.2 subaru

the timing marks are on the camshaft pulleys and there are 2 notches on each pulley> they line up with 2 marks on the engine block for each pulley> and the crankshaft has a notch that lines up with a mark on the engine block aswell> pluss the new timing belt will have white marks on it that will line up with all of the marks on the pulleys when they are in the right place so its nearly impossable to do it wrong

My `1997 Subaru legacy outback wagon ,my gas mileage went from 21 MPH to 15 MPH. What do you think is wrong.

if there are no major problems present all it needs is a tune up(spark plugs, fule filter, oil change, air filter, fule injector cleaner). for a upgrade in fuel economy add a short ram intake, parts are fairly easy to install.

Cause of noise in front differential of 1997 Subaru Legacy Outback.

there is a plug on the shaft-side of the differential. Using a ratchet remove the plug and with the engine OFF, stick your finger inside the hole and you should get fluid just below the threads of where the plug goes in.
