If this is a "new to you" TV, keep reading. If it is a brand new TV, I'd be on the phone to the store to have a replacement ready for delivery / pick up. You do not want to be repairing a TV that is 2 days old.

The first thing to do is determine if the distortion is coming from the speaker or if it is on the signal going into the speaker. Do both speakers sound distorted or only one?

You didn't include the model number of your TV, so I can't speak to specifics. Look for a terminal on the rear of the set identified as "speaker" or "external speaker". If provided, there will be one set of terminals marked for the left and one for the right external speaker.

Connect a speaker directly to the terminals marked for either the left or right speaker (connect to the one that sounds distorted if only one of the built in speakers works correctly - other wise pick either speaker terminal pair.). Speakers that have RCA plugs on them, have built in amplifiers, require batteries or or to be plugged in to an outlet should not be connected here.

Alternatively, you could connect a pair of stereo headphones or earplugs if your TV offers a jack for them. It would have a headphone icon or say "phones" above the jack if one is provided.

Once connected, turn the TV on, lower the volume and set the TV to enable the external speakers / disable the internal speakers. This may be done via menu item selection or a small switch near the speaker terminals. Slowly increase the volume to listen to the quality or clarity of the sound coming from the speakers you connected. If they sound distorted, the problem lies with the audio amplifier in the TV. If they sound OK, then there is a problem with the speakers in the TV.

If you can't return the TV, you may have to see about using the left and right audio line out or HDMI jacks to send the audio to an external amplifier and speakers to hear the program.

I hope this was helpful and good luck! Please rate my reply. Thank you.

Based on the model info you provided, I downloaded the manual for your TV. According to page 8, your model does not offer a connection for external speakers.

The graphic on the bottom right of page 12 shows how you can connect the output audio ("non-amplified" or "pre-amplified") signal to an external amplifier and speakers - like those found in a home entertainment system with standard RCA patch cables. You can connect a simple amplified computer speaker system to the jacks on the back of the TV instead, if you obtain a "Y" adapter cable like the one shown below:

An RCA male to mini stereo female "Y" adapter cable. Allows connection a mini stereo male plug to connect to standard RCA jacks like those found on home stereo amplifiers.

Sony STR DE835 receiver - no sound from speakers and headphone jack

The problem is in the audio output semiconductors, they have shorted causing the fuses to blow and it is in auto protect mode to prevent further damage. I recommend a professional to assess.

Speakers have no sound coming from them.

There is not fuse for the speakers themselves. The speakers maybe blown out. I would take a speaker out and connect it to the home stereo and see if it works. I would check to see if the speakers are plugged in also.

On my jvc 517v when you turn the volume up the speakers are crackeling and scratchie and speakers sound terrible.

Is this a NEW problem or has it always been like this? What modes or sources are affected? Generally, crackling, scratchty sound is either overdrive distortion, speakers being pushed too hard, or blown speakers.

What is the exact model. Can't find the manual for "517v".

Hi I have got a sony TAFE 370 amplifier which does not produce any output, i have tried different input devices and also checked speaker wiring and the speaker selection is on i used it a day ago and all...

If you can't hear any sound from the headphone output, and by sound I mean a hum with the volume turned up, then the amp has either got a faulty internal power supply or the main amp has failed. Try looking inside to see if any fuse has blown. Also look around to see if you can see or smell anything has blown.

My speaker sound terrible its like my speaker is grounded

Check your sounds software first, sometimes the software problem can give terrible output, check in the input plug ,the wrong plug can give terrible sound quality if that too doesn
't work see your setting for sounds.

Built in Speaker no output Sound.

If you can get inside the laptop, try reseating the speaker wires to the motherboard and if that doesn't work, then your speakers are blown are the moterhboard is bad.

MDA speaker sounds blown.

sometimes the speakers just blow. if it is an effect of some sort of 3rd party download, try to wipe it clean by goign to start, settings, system, clear storage. (backup your info first, it will delete everything.) if that faiils, contact your service provider or HTC for an exchange
