Hi Coldcut,
I saw your information on the Acer Al1912 19" LCD :: I have mine open and am looking over the boards for what can be wrong with it. It powers on briefly but then shuts down again. I've had similar problems with Olevia's and learned that it was cause by deficient power capacitors. Upon opening this one up (thanks to your information) I noticed a great total 4 missing capacitors. Now I was wondering if this was just a common production method (e.g. ACER has the same board but uses it in all of its televisions, but each board is stuffed differently) or if I have found my problem..
What do you think? Your assistance is most appreciated.
It is common to have a lot of missing caps. in all types of boards
they may leave out a chip and not need them
or find that the put too much load on the wiring .
a cap is just a small battery and filter for a part of the circut that
draws more than the wiring supports, and lets the chips do burst speed
without waiting for the power to rise.
if you have a power on off cycle look for heat rise in transistors.
but usually its a cap overloading.
not easy to trace. also look for bulging caps on the top of them.

my monitor pops up a stupid dialog box every 2 minutes or so that says "Acer eColor Management" and then disappears on its own or I have to press a monitor button. This just started happening after installing the obnoxious Vista updates. Any ideas?
