Ram is almost full on my 530 need to know how to increase it or erase it?

RAM is random Access memory if it is too full then you need to shut off some programs and use them one at a time or find older copies of the programs your running which do not take so much space.

Why does my smartbook run slow

Hi Sharon,
Run a full scan of your smartbook with an updated antivirus. There could a viral attack on your machine making it drag. Also, the free space on your hard drive.Low disk space makes the machine to slow, delete old and unneccessary files from your machine to create as much space as possible.

Hope this helps.Thanks!

Hi, my pc is a ss51G. It was running fine, with new 20gb hdd. The new hdd was lying besides the pc. When I put all the stuff back in cabinet it was dead. I checked all cables, ram and stuff. Still dead....

Connect hard drive to know working computer and see if it is recognized in the bios. If not then the hard drive logic board is fubar. If working, perform diagnostics on it. If you replace the cable that might do it. Bad connection?

PC runs slow. Only has 512 RAM. Is there space for more? Machine is a Sony VAIO, about 7 yrs old. Model PCV 2234

1. Wait the long 5 minutes for your computer to boot. Once you're on the desktop, go to the start menu. Select "run..." Type "msconfig" (no quotes) into the box. The Microsoft system configuration utility should pop up (if you're on Windows XP, Windows 2K users visit: www.techadvice.com/win2000/m/msconfig_w2k.htm

Once this handy tool pops up go to the "Startup" tab...
You will see a list of every process that runs on system startup. Some of these should look familiar; if you know what a program on this list is and you know you don't want it loading on system startup, uncheck it. There will probably be items on the list that you don't recognize. Any of the things on this list can be googled; you'll find a page which explains what a process is, and if it's vital to the system or not. Anything non-essential or unwanted should just be unchecked. Without having to load all that additional garbage your aging computer should boot up much faster (depending on how many processes you disabled). When you exit the msconfig utility you'll see a message about restarting now or later; you are not required to restart right after you do this.

Compaq presario 2200 is very slow

If you open up Windows Explorer, right-click on 'My Computer' if you are running XP or 'Computer' if you are running Vista and select Properties from the context menu, you will be presented with a window that displays information about the installed processor and clock speed as well as the amount of memory installed in the computer.

Again in Windows Explorer, if you right-click on Local Disk (C:) and select Properties, you will be presented with a window that give you information about the amount of used space, free space and total space on the hard disk.

My old, cheap Dell will not come on, screen is black

The memory it is referring to is RAM, not hard drive space. You may have a bad memory module; one easy way to tell is, if your computer comes up at all, right click My Computer and select properties, it should display on this screen how much memory the computer thinks it has. You may need to get some new RAM.

Memory

No, you need to install RAM modules with the same specifications as what you are currently running, PC 2100 means that it is 266 MHz, PC 3200 is 400 MHz, and this could potentially harm your board, or not even run at all. Newegg.com is a great website for purchasing RAM as well as other PC products for a very good price. Also it is good to match the manufacturer of your RAM modules. This is not absolutely necessary, but sometimes RAM modules can run better if they are all made by the same company (I know that sounds a bit strange but there is some truth to it.) The idea when buying RAM is to match what you currently have/require. The manufacturer and the amount of RAM are about the only things that are not neccessary to match. Here is a link to Newegg's website with a listing of PC 2100 RAM modules that can be purchased. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Description=pc+2100&x=0&y=0. Hope that helps. If the link is unaccessable go to Newegg.com and under their name is a search bar where you can type PC 2100 and that should bring it up.
