    1. If I attempt to start the dryer immediately after it quits it starts 2. When I open the door and hold the door switch, and start the dryer it still cuts off in about 30 seconds.

    Hello,

Thank you for the information to correct the problem with my Maytag, but after checking your wiring diagram and looking at the wiring on the dryer, I decided to follow your advice and call in a pro because I have no electrical experience.

    Thanks Again

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

I should be able to assist you, but first let me ask a couple of question's in relation to your post. When you said "runs for about 30 seconds and then shuts down".

1) If you attempt to start immediately after it quits, will it start?

2) If you open the door and hold the door switch closed (pushed in) and start the dryer, does it still cut out after 30 seconds ?

It's relevant to the motor and door switch. I want to find out if it is cutting out on the thermal overload or otherwise. Your reply will help determine that so I'll watch for your post.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

    Hello again,

Thank you for replying and providing that info. If you have electrical experience or inclined, you can unplug the dryer, then unhook the belt from the motor, remove the motor wire harness/connections and hook 120vac to numbers 4 and 5 on the motor switch...and old small appliance or lamp power cord with connectors on it works well.

If the motor starts and continues to operate without fail, it is good.

Beyond that and you have a multi-meter you will need to now verify the motor drive relay is good. This is on the control board in the control panel/console.

**These following test's will require the unit to be plugged in so please take caution in servicing the unit. If you do not feel confident in trying this please call in a pro.**

Since the motor starts initially we know there is voltage on the black wire ( contact PS7 ) at the motor drive relay, but we want to find out if there is power on the gray wire ( contact PS9 ) after 30 seconds when it stops, see illustration below.

Try this and get back to me. I should mention if the circuit opens after 30 seconds (no voltage on PS9) that would indicate a faulty relay thus needing a new control. Keep me posted.

    Regards,

    Macmarkus :)

SOURCE: Dryer flame shuts off after about 30 seconds

this sounds like a clogged vent more than a thermostat. go outside with the dryer running and see if hot air is blowing out the vent. if not check outside vent for birds nest etc, inside make sure the vent is straight any dips in vent could cause water to build up clogging the vent. try this first if it doesn't work write back

Kenmore 800 dryer shuts down after running down to 40 minutes on the timer. When I restart it at that point it runs for about 30 seconds and shuts down. If I turn the timer back to 90 minutes it runs down...

Sounds like you may have a bad motor. If the motor is overheating it will shut down on its overload.

If its a shorted contact in the timer you could mark the spot where it stops and restart it again. It should stop exactly at that point.

Dryer runs but element cyles on and off every 30 seconds

you probably need a thermostat kit, either that, or the venting is plugged causing the safety thermostat to shut the heat down so there is no possibility of a fire.

Roper Dryer not Drying

Get a thermostat and place it in the exhaust. The thermostat should reach 160 and then shut down and drop to 120 F and start back heating to 160 again on cotton setting. You should hear an audible click when the thermostat opens and closes. If the dryer is clear of lint and blockages then change the control thermostat which is mounted on the blower housing.
