Question about Schwinn Exercise & Fitness

1 Answer

Yesterday while using the Schwinn 815 treadmill, it quit dead almost like a power failure. I know there was a momentary power surge as it also affected the TV I was watching in that it blinked. The power switch remained lit and there were no lights or indications on the upper control console. Attempted to reset the circuit breaker next to the power switch but unit remained dead. I have replaced the circuit breaker as a precautionary measure but still no power to the upper control console.

i AM VERY MUCH AFRAID THAT THE MAIN POWER BOARD IS GONE. I found a small 13 amp fuse on the board (solid white) that does not appear damaged but will replace just in case. Does anyone have a source for after market circuit boards for this item?

Thanks for your help. Schwinn was acquired by Nautilus some time ago. When contacted they were less than helpful in giving me info on any possibilities for acquiring circuit boards for this model of treadmill, the Schwinn 815. This unit is about 6 years old and hasn't been used all that much since I prefer outdoor activity when weather permits.

This is not sounding good. A reset normally would solve a problem with the logic on the circuit boards that control the unit, but that doesn't sound like it worked.

According to Schwinn, the troubleshooting procedure for a treadmill that won't turn on are as follows: Make sure the outlet is powered, it is plugged into the outlet, the device turned on by the switch and the safety key is in position. pretty elementary stuff - but I included it because that's what the manual says to do.

I can suggest the you try unplugging the power cord from the outlet for a minute or two, then plug back in & try to start the treadmill again. Sometimes that is the only way to be sure that there is no power reaching the circuit board(s) to perform a reset of the logic. If the circuit board(s) remain powered they can be "locked up" and will not allow normal operation of the device.

If unable to get the treadmill to run, you'll probably have to contact Schwinn Customer Support for assistance. You have a choice of ways to contact them as shown here.

I hope this got you going - or at least pointed you in a direction to get help. Please rate my reply. Thank you.

The small, tubular shaped fuses - the ones that look like the glass types that were used in older cars are not always clear. In fact, a white ceramic body with metal end caps like the one below is pretty common.

You can not determine if these fuses have opened simply by a visual inspection. A continuity check with a "test light" or test with an ohm meter are the only ways to check this type of fuse. Since these fuses are relatively "short money" you might just want to purchase a replacement fuse if you lack an ohm meter or test light. Make sure that you purchase the exact same type, size, etc. replacement fuse.

Replacement boards may be available through Schwinn's network of sales and service retailers. You should contact the place of purchase - or Schwinn directly for a list of those retailers - or to learn if they sell these parts.

I found a seller of repair parts for your Schwinn 815. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like they carry the board you're looking for. Anyway, here it is - maybe you can contact them and inquire if they have any stock not listed on the page.

Hi There, well, it sounds like your motor control board is failing due aging capacitors. Using the unit like this can lead to complete failure and possibly costlier repairs. You can find repairs and refurbs for treadmills by emailing gregATbuyfitnessrepairpartsDOTcom as well as for additional help. There is a power supply circuit on the control board that provides power to your console, if your console goes dead, as in no lights or beeps, the power supply is failing when warmed up. Good Luck!

This type of treadmills seem to have high probability of failure if you use the emergency cutoff switch instead of the power switch at the bottom.

My guess is by yanking the red magnetic safety switch, the induced current put a heavy load on the central controller circuitry, and over the time it damages the IC chips on that board.

There's a border-line failure phase before the controller goes completely dead, I realized this and stopped using the safety switch, it hasn't had any issue ever since.

We had a momentary power failure (breaker tripped). Once power was restored, the radio works but the clock does not. No display at all. Any idea?

It sounds like the outage caused a surge in power and damaged your clock. I recommend connecting all your equipment to surge protector power strips.

I have a Schwinn 815 treadmill. Today, during the middle of a workout, it stopped dead. The console display has no lights on. The only light that is on is the power switch light. Other than that,...

it sounds like the problem could be the wire from the console down to the motor control board has come undone or partly undone. you need to take the console off and see if the wires are conected properly. if this isnt the problem then the console might have fried somehow, possible from the same reason, the wires came disconnected and shorted out on something.

How do you adjust the slack on the belt? This is for a 815 model.

If the walking belt slips when walked on, first remove the key and UNPLUG THE POWER CORD. Using the hex key, turn both idler roller bolts clockwise, 1/4 of a turn. When the walking belt is correctly tightened, you should be able to lift each edge of the walking belt 2 to 3 in. off the walking platform. Be careful to keep the walking belt centered. Then, plug in the power cord, insert the key, and carefully walk on the treadmill for a few minutes. Repeat until the walking belt is properly tightened.

My Healthrider 400se Treadmill slows down after 10seconds

Use only a single-outlet surge suppressor that is
UL 1449 listed as a transient voltage surge suppressor
(TVSS). The surge suppressor must have a
UL suppressed voltage rating of 400 volts or less
and a minimum surge dissipation of 450 joules.
The surge suppressor must be electrically rated
for 120 volts AC and 15 amps. There must be a
monitoring light on the surge suppressor to indicate
whether it is functioning properly. Failure to
use a properly functioning surge suppressor could
result in damage to the control system of the
treadmill. If the control system is damaged, the
walking belt may change speed or stop unexpectedly,
which may result in a fall and serious injury.

How do you adjust the belt for a Weslo Cadence 815 treadmill?

Hi, I don't have a manual on your particular treadmill but most all treadmills use the same type of belt tension and tracking, which is an allen screw adjustment on the rear tension bar. One on either side. You should have been provided an allen wrench with your treadmill, if not then use one of your own the proper size. Make the adjustment with the unit running at its slowest speed. Clockwise tightens the tension and will draw the belt. Good Luck, this should Fixya!
